(95,247 posts)We had some problems with them a while back in Illinois; they snuck a fellow on in the lieutenant governor's slot, and it was a disaster of an election.

(7,809 posts)I have a sense of ethics that is too strong to present myself as anything other than what I am. I don't see the point. If I'm ashamed of myself, then it's up to me to improve to my satisfaction or live with the consequences. Lying about myself will only make people doubt my word, my intelligence, my everything.
I don't understand how some politicians can live with themselves. Villains in Bond movies have more strength of character than this woman. At least they don't hide what they are or what they are trying to do.
If they don't think their political philosophy will "sell" to the voting populace, then they can either explain themselves better or take a long, hard look at their beliefs.

(38,436 posts)under any circumstances. This is not like Kentucky or Georgia, where there is a real chance to win.
Just want to add that, and.. yes she is a fraud.

(10,283 posts)... Governor and Lt Governor (which IS possible - though they are certainly underdogs).
But if a total lying whack job is on the Democratic ticket right beside them, it makes it much harder.
We must not let this fraud win the primary.

(25,699 posts)That's what so many keep telling us. Better to have an enemy with a D next to their name, than the same enemy with an R! Because policy doesn't matter, so long as you're on the winning team!

(13,986 posts)There is a big difference between a Dem that isn't liberal enough, and Repub or Libertarian pretending to be a Dem.
The first is regrettable, the second a fraud.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)Either way you get the same outcome. Both weak liberalism and strong conservativism result in conservative policy.
riqster
(13,986 posts)Much worse than, say, Obama.

(25,699 posts)So what's the big difference, if either road leads to the right?
riqster
(13,986 posts)I have seen that over the decades. Under Clinton, we had too many people in the shelters and pantries. Under Bush, it became cataclysmic. Now, it's getting a bit better again.
Anyone who says it makes no difference which party wins, or says there is no difference between LaRouche and Obama is talking theory.
Put the shoes to the pavement, go into the homeless encampments, feed the poor with your own two hands, and the difference is stark.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)Both start at the same place and both lead to the same place.
I'm not comparing parties. I'm asking what the difference is between weak liberalism, and strong conservativism, since either way we get conservative policy. The former may wander around a bit more and phrase it in sunshine and gumdrops, but the end result we get is the same - right-wing policy.
The only option is strong liberal policy.

(13,986 posts)How to get the center to move back left is the question. I submit that we tried the "fuck it, let it get god-awful and people will wake up" route in the Oughts, and it did not work.
So the only way I see to get to policy is incremental. Elect Dems instead of Repubes. Get some critical mass so we aren't fighting uphill all the time. The way we did it before, three times in the last century.
