Al Gore: ‘Our democracy has been hacked’

Al Gore: ‘Our democracy has been hacked’
by ROGER SIMON | 5/13/14 3:34 PM EDT

CHICAGO — You think Al Gore is upset about global warming? You ought to hear him on American politics.

“The American political system is an utter catastrophe,” he said. “Our democracy has been hacked. The country is utterly and completely paralyzed. Hog-tied. And on a measure that will mean countless deaths in the future.”

“Why?” Gore asked. “The influence of money. The average member of the House and Senate has to spend five hours per day begging rich people for money. Begging rich interests for money!”

And those rich people and rich interests don’t give you money with no strings attached. No way. In return for their money, they want votes that will benefit them. “The piper is paid,” Gore said.

3. When the Supreme Court ruled in GWB's favor, that ended any hope for Gore.

There was nothing Gore could have done. The Suoreme Court will be forever tarnished for this illegitimate ruling.

It was the people who quit on Gore.

As for the OP, the only medicine for a sick democracy is more democracy.

Medicine: One House rep for at most 100,000 citizens.

But like giving up on Gore, the people are too f'n stupid. We're doomed.

The Constitution in Article I, Section 2(3) suggests one rep for every 30,000 but does not require it. Currently we have one rep for every 800,000. That is far too many. To reach that many people in an election costs a fortune whether you are an incumbent or someone challenging an incumbent. In order to get money out of politics we need to get more representation.

8. "Forever tarnished." And do you think the Right-Wing Supreme Court gives a damn? I think

they glory in being tarnished, because they are corrupt, rotten and thieving corporatists.
They love it. They are proud of it. That's the way sociopaths are.

The top Republican leadership is riddled with sociopaths. That IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM.
And they can't behave any differently from the way they are.

9. You are correct. The Dems. have too many middle-of-the-road leaders to do much good

in this area. Pelosi"s "Impeachment is off the table," when GWB had actually lied our nation into a war,
which was a genuinely impeachable crime. She failed in doing her duty. And Obama gives in to the
Repubs. the vast majority of the time because of his obsession with bipartisanship.

We desperately need a Progressive Democrat for president in 2016 in order to get anything done at all.
We've been shown conclusively that a middle-of-the-road Democratic approach has failed, and failed
miserably over and over again. Their approach is the wrong one in dealing with the present-day,
corporation-ruled GOP.
