John Nichols: Scott Walker: desperate and hypocritical

http://host.madison.com/ct/news/opinion/column/john_nichols/john-nichols-scott-walker-desperate-and-hypocritical/article_e9ca9e71-1980-52ab-8028-a70714274baa.html

Let’s be clear about one thing: Republican governors of Wisconsin have historically been big fans of Wisconsin-based businesses.

So, it should be noted, have Democratic governors.

Whatever the partisan or ideological divisions might have been, Wisconsin governors have rarely attacked Wisconsin companies, especially iconic companies that have brought the state international attention and acclaim.

Until now.

That Scott Walker is desperate to continue as governor is beyond debate. He needs to be re-elected to mount his 2016 bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Yet he can’t break out of a tie in the polls, which is a very bad circumstance for an embattled incumbent. That’s got the governor scared.

In his desperation, Walker has adopted a win-at-any-cost strategy that is radically at odds with his own party's traditions and the state’s political history.

The governor’s decision to launch an expensive, unrelenting media campaign attacking the business practices of Trek Bicycle — the company founded and run by the family of his Democratic challenger, Mary Burke — has little precedent in the modern era of Wisconsin politics.

.. throughout the land. You want contraception to be illegal? Keep voting for Republicans. You want the highest level of crony capitalism? Vote Republican. When they finally crash the economy totally and completely, I will survive while you can look in the mirror if you have one.

a scale never seen before. Wisconsin Democrats will have to watch him and his cohorts
like hawks, and never let those election boxes and bags out of sight -- day and night,
and you'll have to be ready to counteract against everything else crooked you think he
will try. He is a first-class sociopath.
