Republicans are trying to stop the student vote. We won't let them!

"They," of course, refers to Republicans. "We" refers to every person who believes the right to vote is fundamental.
Voter suppression isn't something that only happens to black people, Latinos, women, immigrants, the transgendered, the elderly, and the disabled.

Republicans in legislatures across the nation don't want young people to vote. They are specifically targeting students at universities and colleges across the nation.

Gee, wonder why that is? I'm sure you can figure it out—instantly.

they believe likely to vote Democratic.

You can break it down if you like into youth, student, poor, urban, minority, or whatever, but I am not sure that helps.

Look at how various groups voted in the last several Presidential elections. Draw a circle around the groups that are said to have voted Democratic by a lot, like students and minorities. Those are groups whose votes Republicans will target.

Same thing for neighborhoods that vote Democratic.

They will leave neighborhoods and demographics that usually vote Republican undisturbed.

It's not rocket science.

ETA: "undisturbed" is not the right word. They will register voters and do whatever else they can to turn out the Republican vote; and that is fine. That is what they should do, in addition to coming with stuff a lot people actually want to vote which they never seem to do. They need to stop trying to disenfranchise Democrats, though.

This is big news. As an American we all have a role in this government - and that is to vote. The voter suppression going on in this country by the Repubs is anti-American and downright wrong and criminal.

Why isn't this bigger news? Americans should be outraged that a political party is overtly trying to take away this right of Americans.

How can we make this a bigger issue - particularly before the Nov election?

I really think many Americans don't even realize this is going on.

From what I know in the past - when you start taking things away from Americans - they start getting upset and vocal.

Again - how can we bring this issue to the forefront?

I went to college in a small town. The student population was high enough to be a significant fraction of the total population. The people who resided year round in the town didn't like the college students voting in the local races as they saw it as the students interfering the "their" elections.

For me, I identified more with that town than I did where my parents lived. I went back summers to work and save money, I spent 9 months of the year in that small town.

Maybe it's time to nationalize elections, standardize regulations, such that one can vote the appropriate ballot regardless of where you happen to be physically located on election day. Make it a national holiday, show up at the most convenient polling location and vote the ballot for your "home."
