A good analysis of the Alaska races by Anchorage pollster Ivan Moore

I’ve known Begich for many years. I know him to be an honest and straightforward guy, if a little too invested at times in political chicanery of one sort or another. The vote he made that lost me was the one against the Manchin-Toomey amendment that would have expanded background checks for gun purchases in the wake of the Newtown massacre. I’m sorry, I will never forgive that vote.

But I have no clue who Sullivan is. After the untold millions spent by his campaign and his allies, I have no idea who he is, except I presume he doesn’t look like a complete dick on a snowmachine. This has been the substance of his campaign and appears to be a Very Important Thing that a candidate for US Senate needs to be able to do. Who knew?

I also have no idea who he will represent. He looks to me like a classic big business, big money Republican who will run off doing the bidding of Karl Rove or the Koch brothers and whoever else bankrolled his campaign. He’s an empty-suited puppet, persuaded to run by kingmakers who will pull his strings once he’s in office.

Begich has 6,000 contributions from Alaskans, Sullivan has 700. As of September’s disclosures, Begich’s number one state in terms of campaign contributions is Alaska, Sullivan’s number one state is Ohio. Enough said. Vote Begich.

I was having trouble copying that link on my iPad. I'll try again.

I can't get that link to copy for anything, but if you go to The Press and click on Ivan's article, you can read the whole thing.

This IS the politics forum, isn't it? I guess I should have said political races for the literal-minded.

A lot of people love winter the best because of skiing, snowmachining (no, not snowblower, silly), hockey, winter festivals, dog sled races, etc. etc. I'm not into the sports part of it, but I love to take pictures in the winter. It's beautiful here, and we have golden light all day in the wintertime because of the low angle of the sun.
