dimwits were wanting to ship our gas over to Europe to put the hurts on Putin. Looks like the sanctions and the market took care of it.

in one of the 2012 election debates. President Obama just laughed at him. Now he agrees with Romney.

However the Tea Partiers love them some Putin. He symbolizes all their dreams come true.

in their attitude to Russia.

Did you see Obama's speech at the UN where he said that Russia was the greatest threat in the world, worse than Ebola or ISIL?

I'm on a smartphone right now so not easy to get a link. But it was a big speech, it should be easy to find.

Thanks.

How do you think the Russians felt about that.

Plus he basically compared them to the Nazis.

you're not going to see it but others might.

IMO something drastic changed in President Obama's foreign policy between his first term and second term. Many will say that events just happened but I think there's more to it than that. Perhaps I'm in the minority here on DU with that opinion.

Romney was scaremongering at the time. Russia didn't become relevant until it annexed Crimea. And then, it became clear that their relevancy is meager at best, given how utterly incompetent Putin has been since.

Looks good now, but most politicians are short-term thinkers because they need to face the next election with short-term-thinking voters.

Putin has some good points. He has many bad points. Those who celebrated Putin as "all good" were few and far between, to be honest--but making fun of them or just those that refuse to use a 3-foot-wide brush for detail work for letting facts reset their attitudes is a foolish proposition. It makes us feel good but makes it less likely that facts will get in the way of changing minds in the future. In short, it's another short-term thinking ploy.

This, in a world that shows no signs of coming to an end by late spring 2015.

IIRC the drop in oil prices helped the economy during Reagan.

Will be better than the payroll tax cut here. Saving me 80 bucks a month right now.
