Radio ad in Florida urges evangelicals to support immigration reform

Appearing on Christian radio stations in Florida and Colorado is this ad from the newly formed Evangelical Immigration Table, a coalition supporting immigration reform.

"Christians should be known by their love," Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, says in the beginning of the ad. "As evangelical leaders we are called by Christ to be people of compassion toward everyone. This is why we must speak out on behalf of all those affected by our broken immigration laws."

The group, a notable coalition of top religious leaders, calls for less heated rhetoric and cooperation from both parties on immigration reform. That could help efforts such as Sen. Marco Rubio's push for a Dream Act alternative and may help push Mitt Romney off the harder-edge platform he espoused on in the GOP primary.

"Our national immigration laws have created a moral, economic and political crisis in America," reads the Evangelical Immigration Table's statement of principles. "Initiatives to remedy this crisis have led to polarization and name calling in which opponents have misrepresented each other’s positions as open borders and amnesty versus deportations of millions. This false choice has led to an unacceptable political stalemate at the federal level at a tragic human cost."

I think the evangelical elites are looking to lure Hispanics to vote for Romney, particularly in FL. flpoljunkie Jun 2012 #2

The anti immigrant rhetoric has paid off and Mexicans are feeling unwelcome in the US. So much so that many of them are returning home leaving many American growers with nobody to plant, irrigate, weed and harvest their crops.

The people that contribute a lot of $ to "evangelical" churches are feeling the pinch. And that's the only reason these hypocrites have suddenly discovered compassion.
