Allen West, a Florida congressman, claims 80% of Democrats are communists. Why does he say this? There is here a Freudian jewel - by saying Democrats are communists, he behaves like an ultra-right white man, a skinhead of sorts, the essence of whiteness. This is a way for him to try to shake off his uncomfortable blackness. To no avail, of course - every morning he must confront, yet again, his black face in the mirror and go on hating those he fancies despise him. West, who wants to be who he isn't, is, basically, a botched mimicry of Joe McCarthy, who was precisely the Republican he seemed to be.

because he knows that the average Republican voter is dense enough to buy that nonsense. He knows that he and the rest of his party can deal any kind of blows below the belt without being called on it by our not-so liberal media.

What you are saying, correctly, that the average Republican is dense enough to buy that nonsense, you are saying, also correctly, that about 50% of Americans are dense. This is indeed a horrific fact since it implies a mix of great power and great stupidity, all in one silly patriotic package.
