Related: About this forumO’Malley: Dems tilting race toward Hillary
OMalley lit into the Democratic Party for seeking to limit the number of presidential debates, which he said would help Clinton glide to the nomination.
OMalley said he raised the issue with the chairwoman of the Democratic Party, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), during last weeks National Urban League conference in Fort Lauderdale.
There's an effort by a few insiders to try to limit the number of debates that we have and I've shared with the chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz that I think thats a grave mistake and I think it's undemocratic, O'Malley told The Hill in between in-between campaign stops in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.
I agree with O'Malley. The establishment of the Democratic Party is trying to fix the primary election for Hillary Clinton. But I have news for the them. They are not the party. We the base are the party and we will choose the nominee, not them.

Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)what it would take to get those children in schools and their well being including health care? I have researched O'Malley and I determined Hillary does have more foreign experience, she has advocated for children in her work with the Children's Defense Fund, she could have accepted a position in a large law firm but wanted to work with to help children. She has advocated for women's rights, trying to get the pay equalized between men and women. She has sponsored bills to tie the minimum wage increases to raises for Congress, it did not pass but she has worked to get the minimum wages on a steady increase. The last federal minimum wage increase she worked hard to get. She supports the Dream Act. She presented healthcare to Congress in 1993, it did not get passed but has advocated for healthcare. I am not degrading O'Malley or Bernie but this Dems are tilting the race towards Hillary is not true anymore than they would be tilting the race towards O'Malley and Bernie. I have been disappointed in the showing O'Malley has had but to say it is tilted for Hillary just may not be a factor, Hillary just may be polling because many others knows her record.

(2,975 posts)Just advocate "taking it easy" (though I don't see either even vaguely attempting to "crush" her) because she's a woman with experience and ability?
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)Hillary and we know the history of who has priority in hiring, etc for many years, it is a long hard fought battle and now that Hillary is polling better the statement of the dems are tilting the race towards Hillary is another reason to cry poor me, Hillary is polling better than they are.
JackInGreen
(2,975 posts)There's an accusation of a tilt is that by this time election year we'd had 6 debates and no restrictions (I think) on candidates to debate on their own. Now we have Hillarys former national campaign co-chair scheduling them amd we get nothing until october.
I think that's adequate to breed suspicion. Her gender doesn't come into it.
do you really think the only reason for the suspicion is mysogyny?
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)their clown car, they are not having as many debates either. Neither does the fact they are only planning 6 debates, it is protecting the DNC candidates. If the candidates are incapable of getting their stand on the issues across to the voters in 6 debates then 26 isn't going to help.
JackInGreen
(2,975 posts)Defended by having 6 debates is hillary.
When the July Quinnipiac poll says that 2% to 3% need to know more about Hill; But 43% need to know more about Bernie, I think the only person defended is the one with more name recognition. The others can only benefit from exposure.
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)ability. Bernie is responsible for getting his name and abilities to the public.

(2,707 posts)like we had in 2004 and 2008. Sometimes, there is nothing wrong with a nice orderly window dressing show. Hillary has earned the nomination, its been a long time coming.

(13,059 posts)Clinton by limiting debates. That is wrong. They should be neutral. If debates won't help O'Malley then so be it but at least let him debate and get his views out.

Unlike some, he is showing true bravery by standing up for true Democracy. You who are opposing more debates could learn a lot from O'Malley.

(11,785 posts)You don't risk making your candidate look desperate by rigging the game unless you're afraid they'll need it. Congratulations, DWS, you just handed the GOP another stick to beat us with. Moron!
