Maybe A Dumb Question But Didn't The Repugs Vett Their Pres Candidates Before Letting Them Run?....

Seems to me it would make sense for them to check out their candidates that are vying for the presidential nomination for their party but all through the Repug nomination contest they've had problems with their candidates. Two come to mind - Cain and Gingrich.

Now Rmoney is embroiled in this Bain controversy not to say his offshore accounts and tax returns. All of this is a reflection on the Repug party and if they would have vetted their candidates maybe they wouldn't be placed in this embarrassing situation that Rmoney and hence the party is in now.

Now don't get me wrong - I'm enjoying all this coming down on them and I believe it will cause them to lose and lose big in Nov.

But this is a party that is trying to get back into power and one would think that they would do all they could to prevent such embarrassments. They didn't and now it looks pretty bad for Rmoney. Maybe even a felony committed on his part.

Maybe we'll have a brokered convention after all.

1. Could people on this board PLEASE stop talking about a brokered convention? I don't understand why this keeps getting raised every day. That is not going to happen unless something extraordinary happens. It hasn't happened in modern history, even in years like 1996 when it was obvious Bob Dole was going to lose by a large margin.

2. Mitt Romney is still doing very well in the polls. He is behind, and Obama is certainly projected to win the Electoral College at this point in time, but it's not as if Romney's falling through the floor. Even in today's PEW poll which gave a 7-point lead to Obama, he was still tied with Independents. So until he loses the Independent vote, Romney is very much alive.

the entire decision to attack the aca at all costs has done enormous damage to rmoney's campaign.

they should have embraced aca and run on him getting it done first as governor.
but the all-out war against the aca meant he had to run on his business career, which is a sucky story full of political landmines.

Keep in mind that their sole overriding objective has been to deny President Obama a second term in office, so I figure that that's pretty much the furthest they've gone in terms of thinking about the Election (and its aftermath).

The vetting process most likely comes down to 'can we get away with it'.
To the republican machine Romney's current problems appear more like assets. If he has scammed the system and gotten away with it so much the better.
What other party can you think of that considers coupons to be a health care plan and open raceism is used to excite the base?

If Mitt (and others) decided that it was his shot, then who could have stopped him from running with all the cash he has. Maybe in some smokey back room this year the bosses figured this was the only way to get rid of him. Perhaps they're really eying 2016. (Thats my conspiracy theory for the day.)
