2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIt's not just white states that vote first, they also get debates. Where the fuck is the outrage?
I have heard people complain that minorities are not given enough attention, but it is the good ole' DNC that is putting the debates in states that have overwhelmingly white population. So why isn't there outrage?
Debate States (% of white population based on 2013 numbers):
Nevada: 76.7
Iowa 92.5
New Hampshire 94.2
Wisconsin 88.1
Florida 78.1
South Carolina: 68.3
Feel free to check the numbers yourself people.
Thanks Debbie!!!!!!!!!!

(22,000 posts)Every single state the debate is in has a low minority population. Is the Democratic Party not suppose to be inclusive?

(81,875 posts)Stirring up the hornets nest of hate and resentment. DWS has issues and should be replaced, but race baiting isn't the way to do it. And your premise isn't supported by the "facts" based on what you posted. 31.7% isn't low

This whole primary thing is rigged. In fact, I think Debbie was hoping there would not even be a need for the primaries, in a way. The voters are not important in the least to her - money and power and the "sure thing". A person who fucking campaigned for and refused to campaign against republicans, here in Florida, is running things. Third Way all the way, baby, and Third Way does not like uncertainty or choice.

(22,000 posts)are being fed. I personally would like to see other states have an opportunity to host a debate. It's all been done through backroom deals.

(11,993 posts)First, the location of the debates has very little impact on the debates themselves or what is addressed. They could be on the Moon for all I care. It's not like very many of us are going to have the opportunity to personally attend. Though there could be a slight skew to the extent that they take questions from the audience.
But also, the fact is, most states are majority white. 44 of the 50 states have white majorities.
And perhaps most directly addressing your point, those primary states are far from the whitest states. While Iowa, NH, and WI are indeed in or near the top 10 whitest states, FL and NV are actually among the 10 LEAST white states, and SC is also closer to the bottom than the top. So the split isn't even so skewed.
I'm not sure why these percentages don't align with yours, but that ranking is based on the info at

(5,417 posts)So Nevada and Flordia are representive of the US population, and they are underrepresented in South Carolina.
But more importantly, who cares. Only a few thousand will attend the debate. If they held all 5 in the same place it wouldnt matter to me.

The numbers for Whites without including Hispanics and Latinos is just a handful of lines away from where you got those.
