Last edited Wed Oct 7, 2015, 04:38 PM - Edit history (1)
I just got off the phone with his office. They are aware of this lie and are stating to everyone: Congressman John Lewis has not endorsed anyone
No one. Got that?
On edit Third call I spoke with Casey, who had earlier told me no, and she apologized for the information. She said he just released an official statement endorsing Clinton. That not everyone on his staff his was aware.
I have no issue with this and I have no problem correcting my post. I do take issue with being called a liar. I was told, emphatically and in no uncertain terms, "you can quote me, we are aware of the story and it is not true."

She is ready to be President on day one. Hillary Clinton has my wholehearted endorsement, and I plan to work and campaign for her to see that she is elected the next President of the United States."
Former UN Ambassador Andrew Young also endorses Hillary Clinton. These are both lifelong activists of stature and integrity, so their endorsements say something important.

This is all very interesting. I'm waiting on pins and needles to see who Obama endorses, especially now after her TPP decision. Carter too.

(39 posts)POSTCARD FROM THE NEW YORKER FESTIVAL Daniel reports: In a Q&A moderated by editor David Remnick, Rep. John Lewis told a midtown crowd Sunday when asked about racism and 2016: Im not going to call anyone a racist
but their ideas and their thoughts and some of the words they use remind me of some of the people I dealt with in the fifties and the sixties.Remnick: Im going to take that as a yes answer.
--What would happen if Joe Biden enters the race: I would still be committed to Hillary. I love Joe Biden. But its time for a woman".

(17,064 posts)So it's not even breaking news. What may be confusing his office staff is perhaps a developing situation as in '07, when Rep Lewis initially endorsed Clinton and later withdrew that endorsement and endorsed Obama.

jeff47
(26,549 posts)If you are interested in toning down the rhetoric, you could post something like "it looks like the word had not been passed to the staff yet". Because that's a very common occurrence - the interns answering the phones are going to be the last to hear.
But you're not.
You made an OP asking everyone to calm down. So do what you asked everyone else to do.
trumad
(41,692 posts)The dude was basically called a liar.

(99,716 posts)One time I made a huge but honest mistake in attribution and it got a lot of responses quickly. I asked the administrators to make the whole thread disappear and they did.
It would be best for the OP to do that, for her, for me, and for everybody.

(26,549 posts)Do you want to see the pile of shit thrown at my inbox by posters who are on forced vacations?
Do you want to see the pile of posts where people have called me a liar over and over and over again in a single thread? I think Sabrina1's record is about 20 replies in one subthread.
Do you know how much of it pisses me off? None.
It's the Internet. People are going to call you names. Just like everywhere else on the planet.
As for deleting, that's worse than editing. It is making your mistake disappear instead of owning up to it.

I have kicked and rec'd enough of your stuff for you to know that I wasn't calling you a liar. I was saying that the story was a lie, which is what I was told.
I apologize for my words reading that I thought you were a liar.

(92,454 posts)regards your assumption that the person answering calls for a particular senator or congress person is always up to date where their representative or senator is on an issue, and at least in my experience that is not always the case. I suspect that is the situation here. The information has not trickled down to the person answering the phone yet.

(9,527 posts)I think people are far too quick to use the word liar, especially given how high emotions have been running. Where something is breaking news (if an endorsement can be considered breaking by itself) it takes a while to get all the correct information to everybody.

(30,481 posts)Then you shouldn't go around calling people telling the truth liars. Talking to a staffer and then going off on a tangent isn't what I would call thorough. People in the other op were telling you the truth and provided multiple links to back it up. You called it a lie because of what someone told you. It's clear who had the information correct.
