2016 Postmortem

As another DUer posted - the band Silversun Pickups have asked that the Romney campaign stop using their song Panic Switch at Campaign stops since 2009.
In response to the cease-and-desist order issued by the band, here's response the Romney campaign gave:
Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul sent The Huffington Post the following statement: The song was inadvertently played during event set-up before Gov. Romney arrived at the location. As anyone who attends Gov. Romneys events knows, this is not a song we would have played intentionally. That said, it was covered under the campaigns regular blanket license, but we will not play it again.
Yet he's been inadvertently using this song since 2009.
What a douchebag.

Have you ever noticed that the GOPers do this all the time? Every campaign, seems like some GOPer uses some music as an intro, and the band whose music it is finds out and then the GOPer gets a letter from a lawyer because they used it without permission -- and wouldn't have given permission if they'd been asked.
That's because all the good music is on our side. All they have is Ted Nugent and a few washed-up C&W singers.

(9,275 posts)By the Kinks, for those of us old enough to remember, would be the perfect song for Mittens:
And he's oh, so good
And he's oh, so fine
And he's oh, so healthy
In his body and his mind
He's a well respected man about town
Doin' the best things
So conservatively

You break the law and you preach
Screw my brain till it hurts
You've taken all my money
And you want more
Misguided old mule with your pig headed rules
With your narrow minded cronies
Who are fools of the first division
Death on two legs
You're tearing me apart
Death on two legs
You've never had a heart of your own
Kill joy bad guy big talking small fry
You're just an old barrow boy
Have you found a new toy to replace me'
Can you face me'
But now you can kiss my ass goodbye
Feel good are you satisfied'
Do you feel like suicide'
(I think you should)
Is your conscience all right
Does it plague you at night'
Do you feel good feel good'
You talk like a big business tycoon
You're just a hot air balloon
So no one gives you a damn
You're just an overgrown schoolboy
Let me tan your hide
A dog with disease
You're the king of the 'sleaze'
Put your money where your mouth is
Mister know-all
Was the fin on your back
Part of the deal' (shark)
Death on two legs
You're tearing me apart
Death on two legs
You've never had a heart (you never did) of your own
(right from the start)
Insane you should be put inside
You're a sewer rat decaying in a cesspool of pride
Should be made unemployed
Then make yourself null and void
Make me feel good I feel good

What a great way to start the morning:

(95,337 posts)The song is considered to be Mercury's "hate letter" towards Queen's former manager Norman Sheffield, incorporating a vast range of vicious lyrics, as described by Mercury, "It's so vindictive that Brian felt bad singing it. I don't like to explain what I was thinking when I wrote a song. I think that's awful, just awful."[1]
Although "Death on Two Legs" never made a direct reference to Sheffield, upon listening to the song, he attempted to sue the band for defamation, and this revealed to the public the subject of the song. Before releasing the album, EMI paid "a substantial sum."[2] Sheffield later admitted that his lawsuit probably gave the band an incentive to dedicate the song to him. During live performances, Mercury would usually re-dedicate the song to "a real motherfucker of a gentleman". This line was censored out of the version of the song that appeared on their Live Killers album in 1979.
