2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTithing to the LDS is NOT "paying taxes" Mitt. Lying yet again.. (plus it's deductible!)
Mitt's fighting back, saying that we're being "small minded" for asking for his taxes. Says the usual Mitt-shit, that we're all wrong for asking because of all the problems in America (like unemployment.)
THEN comes this whopper ""But every year, I paid at least 13 percent," he insisted. "And if you add in addition the amount the goes to charity [at the Mormon church], well, the number gets well above 20 percent." Mitt you ignorant twit. Giving money to the LDS is NOT paying TAXES! I get nothing from that church. They do nothing for me, and little for anyone who is not in their church. So you're saying with a straight face that tithing to the LDS means your tax rate is "closer to 20%?" What? Umm.. your donations to the church are DEDUCTIBLE, which actually means you pay LESS in taxes.
Stop the bullshit. Release them now.

Also note the story from earlier this year, wherein Mitt was ALSO being hounded about his taxes in the primary, and said he'd "consider" releasing them in April. Which he didn't. What is that guy HIDING?????

(52,328 posts)when saying how much you paid in taxes, NOBODY adds in the cost of getting deductions.
NOBODY says, well, but i also paid $300 for a deductible energy-efficient room air conditioner!
and i also paid a few thousand for deductible day care expenses!
and hey, i also lost several grand to better investors so i can claim a capital loss!
oh, oh, and if you add in the cost of the prius i bought for the hybrid tax credit....!

(257 posts)It burns me that that Romney thinks those can be lumped together in a "giving" or "generosity" category.
Paying your fucking taxes is NOT an act of charitable giving or a gesture reflecting magnaminity.

(32,611 posts)I have never heard anyone in my life refer to tithing as "giving to a charity". They are two different things. Maybe it is just the people I hung out with.

(1,034 posts)Todays the wording was "And if you add in addition the amount the goes to charity , well, the number gets well above 20 percent."
Well, Mitt when you donate to a charity or take some some sort of deduction, it is not paying taxes...
