I alerted on this because this is over the top offensive. Two jurors agreed with me. That said two of the jurors pointed out that we need to witness just how sick some are out there on the right. With hindsight, I agree. We should indeed bear witness to this sickness on occasion, it keeps us rooted to a sad reality.

My thanks to the two DUers who provided me with good counsel on this.

BadGimp, please accept my apologies for alerting on your post. I hope it caused you no harm.

the LAST thing I wanted to do was offend fellow DUers.

I shared this because it does show how bad the dialogue on the right is and how racists and vulgar passes for just ok with some on the right..

Please add your opinion when you post something like this.

I had to spend WAY too long thinking about why it was posted and whether to alert on it.

It's easier just to say, I'm sorry this is so offensive but I thought it would be good to know what's circulating.

It really made me sick to my stomach, and worse I didn't know if it was posted by a a troll!!

Racism, sexism, I believe both to be culturally ingrained in each of us to varying degrees. For most of us being aware of it within ourselves is but the first step. Recognizing the damage it does is the second step and working to eradicate it from ourselves is an ongoing process I think.

We surely did not start out with it as babies that's for sure.

The author of that cartoon I suspect is likely aware of his own racism, maybe even takes a misguided pride in it but I doubt he sees the harm it does to our society nor the harm it reflects back on himself.

I am fairly sure that I am done telling sexist style jokes and I stopped with any racial style jokes decades ago. That said I still find myself telling (poor) Republican jokes, in essence demonizing my fellow Americans who think different than me.

Truth be told this is just another form of hate-a hate that reflects poorly on me and yet for the most part a hate perfectly acceptable within our local community. In a very real sense, my own ingrained hate is hardly different than that of the author of that sick cartoon you posted, albeit to a very different degree of course.

We are indeed products of our culture. It will take a lot of effort but I do think that we can change that culture. This election cycle is gonna be very interesting around here.

I'm the one who said "I think it's important to expose cockroaches in the blind, searing sunlight. I've seen too many people downplay racism. Well - here it is."

I haven't seen much in the way of downplaying racism here, but I do think it can be easy to forget exactly how bad it is out there. I was shocked when I saw it. Literally took the breath out of me. Sometimes I think it's very important to be reminded just how deep and vile the swamp is.

Does anyone really think that what Biden said is why we vote for Obama? We're not voting for Obama because of Biden. Duh.

I'm sorry, but although the things on the board are offensive, the entire point of the cartoon???

Maybe the cartoonist is suggesting that Biden really is an ass and actually planned to say something so stupid.

Political cartoons are generally out to make a point. I think people are so busy reading the phrases and being offended by them that the point of the cartoon is missed.

that "the cartoonist is suggesting that Biden really is an ass and actually planned to say something so stupid". The reaction I saw from the worst right wingers on an 'all points-of-view allowed' board was "OMG! Biden said something racist! He's so stupid, he doesn't know how offensive he was!"

There may be a bit of "hey, if I think what Biden said was racist, then I can say a lot of really racist things out loud, and say it's just satire of Biden - cool!" to it.
