This OP was written in November of 2015!
They have never before endorsed any candidate during the primaries.
So what happened?
The backlash has been instant and widespread especially since it became known of the close relationship between Hillary, her campaign and a CEO of PP.
I thought I must have imagined Planned Parenthood's praise of Sanders, their official announcement of his long record on 'standing up for women.
But here it is! I did not imagine it!
The backlash to this obvious cronyism, politics as usual, the turning of an organization that was so respected for its work in support of women over the years, into a political football, has caused outrage to the point where they had to post a statement trying to explain why they broke what was a laudable 100 year tradition to endorse a friend of their CEO.!
What WERE they thinking, and at a time when they need all the support they can get! Why risk the fate of Planned Parenthood by using it for purposes for which it was not intended???
And to contradict their official position on Bernie Sanders just months ago by attempting to diminish his work on behalf of women in their latest statement on their site??
Once again,, women lose when politicians play games with their issues.
I like so many others, have lost a lot of respect for an organization that for so long managed to take the high road.
What a shame! But it won't of course adversely affect Sanders, as a matter of fact it appears this awful decision has actually GAINED support for him!
?@PPact
Theres another feminist running for president and heres HIS record to prove it. http://ppact.io/1M9D2w2 @BernieSanders is #InOurCorner
Planned Parenthood's official Twitter Account here: https://twitter.com/PPact/status/661609560667394048
PP linked to this article about Bernie and his record on Women's Issues:
7 Fantastic Times Bernie Sanders Stood up for Women and Their Rights
Comments on PP's Twitter Account show how negatively people, women especially, are viewing Hillary's Campaign attempting to portray him as a sexist.
Stick to facts, criticize candidates on the issues and their records, but playing coy games in the hopes of portraying your opponent as something they are clearly not is going to backfire.
Thank YOU Planned Parenthood for standing up for Bernie. He sure is standing up for women and for you!

(62,325 posts)on Women's Rights is so excellent be attacked unfairly. Bernie has stood up for them against Republicans also.
It is never a good strategy to lie about your opponent, even your own supporters are likely to be very uneasy about that.
Lol, we'll have to wait and see, but some may do so.

WASHINGTON, DC Planned Parenthood Action Fund today welcomed Martin OMalley to the presidential candidate field. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Statement from Cecile Richards, President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
Martin OMalley has been a strong advocate for womens health and rights. As governor of Maryland, he worked to protect womens access to safe and legal abortion and also supported access to affordable birth control. During his term, he signed a law that ensures low-income women in Maryland have access to free pregnancy counseling, contraception, as well as lifesaving cancer screenings.
Martin OMalleys record is in stark contrast to the GOP presidential contenders so far who are in a race to the bottom on womens health. With his strong leadership and commitment to women, we welcome him as another champion for womens health to the presidential field.

(62,325 posts)Campaign, Bernie has. It appears Planned Parenthood stood up against the deceiving implication that someone with as strong a record on women's rights as Bernie, is anything BUT a champion of Women's rights.
I admire them for doing so. Bernie has taken a stand again, on their behalf in the Senate, against the Republicans who are trying to defund them.
O'Malley is a good guy and my second choice.

(23,272 posts)Under Governor OMalley, Maryland was ranked the best state for Women in America. According to the Center For American Progress, on matters of economics, leadership, and health, women, on average, fared the best in Maryland. Maryland also ranked #1 percentage of women owned businesses, and #1 for lowest wage gap between genders.

(57,349 posts)HC supporters started this misogynist/sexist meme months ago and haven't let up.
Imo, those who frag our allies in the war against women are selective feminists, Bernie has ALWAYS supported my rights.
George II
(67,782 posts)If he proposed this back in 2001, just why does he have to do it again 14-1/2 years later?
Is this an indication of how effective Sanders has been with his peers as a Congressman and/or Senator?

(57,349 posts)This was your original claim:
You got pwned and instead of accepting it you move on to the next ridiculous claim about Bernie: that he never gets anything done.
It's an indication of how hard we've had to fight for our rights and why we should appreciate Bernie for not giving up.
And btw, 206 bills he sponsored/cosponsored were signed into law:
https://www.congress.gov/member/bernard-sanders/S000033?q=%7B"bill-status"%3A"law"%7D
"If" he proposed it?
Nice try but it's a FACT, George.
You get a B+ for effort but that only brings your overall grade to a D-.
eta: you never answered my question, using your standards what took Hillary so long?
George II
(67,782 posts)No goalposts have been moved.
How did Sanders' resolution of 14+ years ago work out? Did it get out of committee? Did anyone but him vote for it?
Funny, I don't recall seeing it on the ballot in 2001, 2002, etc. Did you?
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)Here's a nice pic for you to use:
Yes they have, here's the definition:
http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Moving_the_goalposts
And here was your first statement again:
I corrected the record by informing you of this:
Then you moved the goalposts to:
If he proposed this back in 2001, just why does he have to do it again 14-1/2 years later?
Is this an indication of how effective Sanders has been with his peers as a Congressman and/or Senator?
First you claimed he didn't do anything until now, when your mistake was pointed out you switched to claiming it wasn't good enough because the bill didn't pass. You also added an "if he proposed it" as a sly inference that it might not even be true.
Just admit you got pwned, George. Not that I mind watching you try to weasel out of it but it's really a lot of wasted effort on your part.
I do have snacks though, if you're intent on digging some more. Care for some?
Oh and again, using your standards what took Hillary so long?

(62,325 posts)not 'my candidate beat yours on this or that'. These issues are way too serious for these games. Maybe if instead of using them for political advantage, people actually DID something about them, we wouldn't still be trying so hard to resolve them.
I'm glad Hillary AND Bernie AND O'Malley are on board for women's rights.
George II
(67,782 posts)...since his two proposals came 14+ years apart.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)and that is what we have to change.
What you just did was the equivalent of telling a story about a disaster that 500 people are watching, ONE of them tries to do something, tries to get them to help. But they won't. He does what he can with little or no help from the corporate funded representatives of their real bosses.
AND HE'S TO BLAME!
Unbelievable!

NOBODY SAID HE'S TO BLAME!!!! All we're saying is he was ineffective as a representative, is ineffective as a senator, and will be no different (perish the thought) as president.

(57,349 posts)The amendment has been reintroduced in every session of Congress since 1982. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) championed it in the Senate during the 99th Congress through the 110th Congress. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced the amendment symbolically at the end of the 111th Congress and has supported it in the 112th Congress. In the House of Representatives, Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) has sponsored it since the 105th Congress,[69] most recently in August 2013.[70]

Social Media takes good care of these nasty lies.
And it looks like PP knew about it and like tens of thousands of others, decided to do for Bernie what he has always done for women,, stand up against the lies.

(19,240 posts)Do not underestimate the empowerment that comes from realizing that your daughter can also be president. Community initiatives are more successful if the people with a stake in the outcome participate as leaders. And people are more receptive to change if they see a model with which they can identify---social cognitive model of health behavior.
The alarming rate at which women are abused, raped and murdered in this country is proof that we need to mobilize women---not just bestow them with gifts from on high.

(62,325 posts)and the enormous backlash they are receiving for turning this organization into a political entity in opposition to their own, apparnently, forgotten praise of Sanders.
How on earth do you do this, find other people's long ago posts, I mean I'm flattered that I am actually so important to you that you remember OPs I've posted months ago when I have trouble finding them myself.
I did recall writing something about PP and was about to do a search of my journal to see when it was.
It's kind of spooky to know that there are strangers around who remember more about you than you do yourself, I have to say.
Nevertheless you saved me a lot of time. I'm sure you will in the future also.
PP's cronyism is costing Hillary and them sadly, massively as they have just done what the majority of people abhor the most, crony endorsements, yes, Richard's daughter works for Hillary, turning organizations that into political entities harming, in this case, women and everyone who once had respect for them.
They just made one of the worst mistakes an organization like this could make and the worst thing is, it harms women.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)about this which I and many others will be posting asking for answers from PP.
I'm looking for a few other OPs I wrote months or years ago to review.
Since it takes so much time and I am so busy, and I generally don't remember everything I wrote, I'm sure you will and will be looking to see if you are as helpful with them, since you appear to be such a fan, thanks for the compliment, as seriously, you were with this.
