Getting back on DU after two weeks in hospital with a brokern hip, my overwhelming reaction is one of disgust and dismay. The degradation in the tone and tenor of the debate here has only deepened during my forced absence.
We have the nerve to congratulate ourselves on our elevated discourse, and to deride the Repukes for the mindlessness of their discussions...
Oh, the irony...
MERDE ! Cela suffit ! C'est emmerdant et ennuyeux. Un peu d'imagination, pour l'amour de Dieu !
(N.B. If you're inclined to flame me for failing to cite any anti-Bernie, pro-Hillary posts, don't bother. These glaring examples are what I found on the DU frontpage when logging on this morning.)

I share your views and will keep speaking out about it only because I feel this non-stop negativity and name-calling is dehumanizing and if anything would tend to depress the vote rather than encourage it.

(15,445 posts)The pain is pretty intense right now. I am "gliding" in and out of the pain zone on tramadol.
Thank God I live in France, so I don't have to worry about the financial aspect of my accident. Everything... surgery, two-week hospital stay, all taken in charge by France's single payer health system.
And, the national retirement fund has already sent an inspector to my apartment to see what needs to be done in order to keep me in my own home rather than in a rehab center.
They will take in charge the installation of a safety bar and safety plank in my bathtub, they will send home care for as long as I need it, and will arrange for the tranformation of my bathtub into a "safety" shower over the longer term.
I am SO grateful for a system that puts people first.

Sorry, but this is ridiculous.
Post op requires opiates, unless you are mostly out of pain, which by your own words you are not
This is what happens when we over react to a problem of drug addiction, or we react the wrong way.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)They will avoid opiates, if at all possible. The first couple of days after the surgery, I was given intrevenous Paracetamol and now tabs of Doliprane and Tramadol only.
It's a good thing I have a fairly high pain threshold and that the pain is disminishing by a tiny fraction everyday.
The first 48 hours, I had involunary tears in my eyes every time I had to move, but at least I had all of my senses.
Morphine doesn't agree with me very well--it makes me nauseated.
Interesting info about Tramadol:
http://www.drugs.com/answers/tramadol-opiate-works-opiate-brain-receptors-575707.html
Is tramadol an opiate since it works on opiate brain receptors?
randys1
(16,286 posts)Tramadol is better than ibuprofen, but not as good as opiates.
Not familiar with Doliprane.
The nausea of morphine can EASILY be dealt with by meds.
I had no idea France was like this, Jesus christ, people need to grow the fuck up, sorry for the language but this is absurd.

(322 posts)One Tramadol takes away some pain...
Two Tramadols turns into DAMMITALL..
and 3 becomes FuckitAll...
at least for me, I'm a cheap high... And I take 2 at night to be able to sleep from my really painful arthritis..
& yes,I have a prescription, but don't take all of the prescribed quantity, but "As needed" for pain...
So it works, Mostly...Right?

I just have a grudge about this shit, but to hear this happens in France, wow.
Crazy.
Good joke, by the way
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)that to get on top of the pain, you need to anticipate it and take the meds before you feel it.
Once the pain has come roaring back, it's much harder to dampen it down again.
Tramadol works pretty well--if I take it like they recommended.

(1,782 posts)It looks like three different people thought the same piece of news was worth posting and each posted it in a different place on DU -- LBN, GD-P, and the Bernie group. Having one piece of news posted in three places is not particularly useful, but were the second and third posters supposed to scour DU before they did it? And what's the issue with the tone? It's just news. What's "emmerdant" and "ennuyant" about that?
And how, exactly, are DUers supposed to modulate their recs? IOW, if people found this piece of news important, why should they not have recced it?

(14,733 posts)The way the site handles crossposting is annoying, though. There should simply be a link to the same post that shows up in all groups/forums that are applicable, with a shared comment thread underneath, not multiple OPs, each with a separate comment thread.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)it's feasible with DU's present architechture configuration.
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)For one, you'd have to add a 'crosspost this post' question, and if folks answered yes, you'd give them the entire list of forums and groups as checkboxes or in a multi-select list for them to choose which ones the crosspost belongs in, and add a database table to store the post unique id and the forum/group id's. Right now it's a one-one relationship, so the forum/group ID is no doubt simply stored in the same table as the rest of the post info. As a one to many relationship, you'd need a separate linking table for that.
It wouldn't be terribly complex from a coding standpoint, but it would take a bit of time on the part of someone who knows the database and programming language underlying the site, and add a bit more overhead to the query times used to build the pages.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)Well, those would just be the changes on the input side. You'd also need to make slight changes on the output side as well, but not too many. I know Daily Kos actually keeps coders/tech types onstaff, I don't know if Democratic Underground does as well.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)of making these kinds of changes. It would certainly clean up the Greatest Page, though.

(14,733 posts)I just stopped by Daily Kos, and the site is now totally unusable. They apparently just did a major site revamp, and it's a total flop. I don't know whose bright ideas they decided to implement, but it's about a couple dozen times slower per page load. To load any single page with any real number of comments is taking a minute or more on my machine, and forcing me to wait until everything is loaded, rather than letting me start reading and scrolling. Even replying to a comment from their equivalent of the 'my posts' page ended up making me wait for over a minute before pulling up the reply comment I wanted to read. I guess I won't be using them as an example of a place with good coders on staff again. They're going to lose users like mad unless they revert on a number of the changes they implemented.

(15,445 posts)were impressed by my stoicism and bravery pre- and post-op?
My threshold for physical pain is quite high--much higher than my threshold for intellectual ennui.
Go figure...
stupidicus
(2,570 posts)and not applicable to the obvious pro-hillarian angle and the pursuit of sympathy slips over a hospital visit.
odd the mention of your threshold for intellectual lethargy is, given the mental sloth you've exhibited in not responding to the bias charge. WHy try to deny the obvious, no?
I've seen the same pro-Hillarty crap posted under different headlines many times before, but I guess I'm just more tolerant and less whiny than you, as are most BS supporters apparently, given that this particular whine seems to be new in my recollection.
ANd what's the magic number of like posts whereby whines like yours here is justified from the BS supporter -- 2, 3, or maybe 4 now that you used only 3?
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)"...pursuit of sympathy slips"...seriesly???
And not "lethargy", but ennui--a French word meaning:
British
"ennui" in British English
See all translations
ennui noun uk /ˌɒnˈwiː/ us /ˌɑːn-/ literary
a feeling of being bored and mentally tired caused by having nothing interesting or exciting to do: "The whole country seems to be affected by the ennui of winter."
When three repeats of exactly the same piece make it to the front page within hours of each other--that's my definition of ennui.
stupidicus
(2,570 posts)hardly the kinda stuff that results in either sadness or madness from me, or even the ennui you have apparently been self-victimized by.
try a thesaurus
en·nui
änˈwē/
noun
noun: ennui
a feeling of listlessness and dissatisfaction arising from a lack of occupation or excitement.
synonyms: boredom, tedium, listlessness, lethargy, lassitude, languor, weariness, enervation; More
your life circumstances prior to deciding to whine about repetitive posts on DU have no bearing on that repetition. it merely serves as an explanation as to why you're so whiny and chose repetitive posts to express it. 3 identical headline posts has absolutely nothing to do with your hospital time, and to compare the two is just silly.
I also think it's funny that you'd use sympathy as a vehicle to arrive at the whiny destination you did.
need a hanky?
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)That said, not needing or seeking anybody's pity or sympathy.
I challenge you to find any post where I've "whined" about anything.
Conceptions of "whining" are by definition very subjective.
And, sorry, but there are degrees of both physical and intellectual pain.
stupidicus
(2,570 posts)"Conceptions" of their being something inordinate/wrong about posts with differing origins in terms of posters and board/group are by definition very subjective, and in this case, indicative of flaws in the persons or their reasoning making such a case.
Your medical condition and where it's had you for the last few weeks has no bearing on any of this "overkill" on the posting issue. Only you and the shadow knows why you brought it up, but to contend that it's "STUPID" to think, given it's irrelevance to that issue, that it is just a sympathy gaining device whether intended as such or not -- which has been expressed throughout this post -- is "STUPID".
as any honest and objective analysis would conclude.
You do have a flair for the obvious. That's why don a figurative helmet before engaging people like you and material like this top post -- because of the figurative intellectual pain that cpomes from beating my brain against the proverbial wall.
The bottom line remains the same -- you wanted to berate several BS supporters for making identical posts on different boards, like it's their fault that the DU system herded them together to your great annoyance. And I doubt anyone here is convinced yet that had they been positive HC posts, you'd similarly be whining about it....
Maybe you should consider the degree to which your physical pain is having a negative impact on your intellectual heft and integrity today, no?
toodles
you can have the "last word". I've already wasted more than enough time and text on your silly whine.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)And, I'm afraid I am incapable of even deciphering this paragraph sufficiently to make a coherent response:
stupidicus
(2,570 posts)the last bastion of the _____. It wouldn't matter if you were capable, it would still result in some dodge that would leave the point intact, as has been the case from you largely from start to finish here.
The only unanswered question is did you get enough "get wells" to float your little boat as compensation for stupidly trying to admonish BS supporters for things overwhich they really have no control other than posting by your Hillary-loving prescription?
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)"Get wells" don't float my boat or have an appreciable impact on my healing process. Still, it's nice to know that people care.
You really do make me laugh, dear Stupid...
stupidicus
(2,570 posts)let's recap the main ones for the readers.
1. spelling/grammar nazis generally speaking use that tactic as a dodge, which is really self-defeating insomuch as the dodge is and can be reasonably contrued as a tacit admission of the subject line kind here.
2. it's also reasonable to assume that one cites irrelevant medical conditions with at least the expectation of sympathy for it, and hardly "stupid" to think it the primary reason as you've seemingly alleged.
3. the idea that BS supporters (or HC supporters for that matter) should coordinate their efforts -- like scanning all of DU to make sure no repetition occurs -- to avoid what, further distressing (is that why you mentioned it?) one with a medical condition, suggests a sense of entitlement I would only expect from a pseudo-intellectual like you.
4. and given that you've made no effort to even defend the hilarity/stupidity of your effort at berating/barking orders at BS supporters to comply with your unreasonable/stupid demand, the reader can conclude that you've tacitly conceded you were in error on your silly/stupid demand.
5. The demand is of course, likely one you'd never make for your fellow HC supporters had that been the case. Choosing to think that, given the source, you, is no more "stupid" than my thoughts about your pursuit of sympathy slips. It may be wrong, but hardly stupid.
6. That I make you laugh has no bearing on any of this, just like your medical problems have nothing to do with BS supporter posting habits, and your raising it is only suggestive of the possibility that you may be a simple and incapable chain yanker, given how thoroughly unable you've been to defend your garbage here.
laugh away, eh?
Maybe you'd find it therapeutic to do another top post about the many ways BS supporters make you laugh. Hopefully they won't be as stupid and indefensible as this garbage.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)stupidicus
(2,570 posts)and only serve to illustrate -- like the always ______ "Bwahaaa" defense does -- that ____ nonsense and laughter are the only bandaid you have for the embarrassing and indefensible whine you produced here.

I see these things posted, then posted ten minutes later, then ten minutes after that, and so on. Sanders people seize on anything that shows a chink in Hillary's armor of invulnerability.
