2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThree things my fellow Sanders supporters could do to make things less toxic here
1) Don't assume HRC supporters aren't progressive. It's alright to politely ask how they square backing the establishment candidate with being progressive, but ask those questions with respect.
2) Ease back on the alert-swarming. Better to disprove the arguments made by HRC supporters(which is fairly easy to do most of the time) than to reflexively seek to close threads, even inflammatory ones.
3) Get it straight on the "Bernie and race" arguments. They aren't calling Bernie a racist, they are saying he hasn't said enough on racial issues. And not everyone saying this is an HRC supporter. A significant number are uncommitted PoC voters that we can still win over, but in communicating on that, we need to make it clear that we never sound like we are shouting anyone down. It is
perfectly natural for PoC to be sensitive to anything that makes it sound like race as an issue is being put on the backburner.
(also, stop calling them "Hillbots". It's childish and doesn't help).
If Bernie does get nominated, we are going to need HRC voters to come over to us with enthusiasm. We will need the kind of ,mass support among PoC we haven't yet generated. If we go into Philly without the votes to get nominated, we will at least need enough goodwill from HRC's campaign to get our ideas included in the platform in a significant way. The tone we take here over the next several months will determine whether either is possible.

(11,833 posts)I k & r'ed both your posts. It's fine to argue your points and be passionate about your candidate. I don't like seeing people burn bridges though, not with each other here.

(26,549 posts)Their candidate has said even less. In addition, their candidate is the only one so far to turn to the police to remove BLM activists.
So...we should advance a lie in order to "make things less toxic"?

(61,650 posts)Really, the impact of this thread is negative. I'm sure that was not your intent. I think it shows the depth of the problem among supposed Bernie supporters.
