It's happening!For Immediate Release: States Largest Public Labor Union Announces Primary Endorsemen
Concord, NH, November 19, 2015 The Board of Directors of the State Employees Association/SEIU Local 1984 announced the unions endorsement of Senator Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary.
Bernie Sanders has a long history of fighting for working people, said Richard Gulla, President of SEA/SEIU Local 1984. He shares many of our members goals and values. He is not afraid to take on Wall Street and will fight against corporate greed and corruption. Bernie supports every worker earning a livable wage allowing them to care for and support their families. He is also respectful and supportive of the collective bargaining process. He understands that many of our young people cannot afford to attend college so they can prepare for the jobs of this century; and that our senior citizens are not being afforded a dignified retirement.
We looked at the issues that mattered most to working people, said John Hattan, SEA/SEIU Political Education Committee chair, and most members supported todays endorsement as the best decision.
<snip>
We look forward to supporting Senator Sanders throughout the primary race and will be prepared to support the most labor-friendly candidate post primary, said Gulla.

(24,780 posts)For violation of the SEIU constitution. No doubt a member of that local will do it. A local president does not have the right to do whatever he wants, including against the national union endorsement.

(6,282 posts)How dare a local union poll its members to determine who to endorse. They should go with the president of the union, one who says he is backing HRC because she is "pro-growth"[1], not out of any sense of duty to his union supporters. You're absolutely 100% gosh-darn right.

We don't need his kind in the labor movement.

(6,282 posts)I thought unions were supposed to represent workers? Did I get that wrong?

(17,186 posts)So naturally, the National endorsed the candidate that endorses the "Maybe 12, But No More" solution. That never quite made sense to me.
Good for Local 1984.
