(19,877 posts)I don't favor fracking, we need a plan to commit to energy alternatives like the plan Hillary put forth. I haven't read the TPP but trade deals do support millions of US jobs and add much to our GDP. And I do take the liberal position that terrorism and ISIS must be defeated so oppressed people can rise up and live in peace.

(1,936 posts)quote the exact passages that you find offensive.
Of course, your sticking TPP 100% on Clinton is complete BS. She may have started it but she did not have much of anything to do with it over the last 2-3 years. Would you be ok with someone taking over your job, 2 years passing , and then you get blamed for a product the new guy worked on since you left?

(9,323 posts)Don't act like they are both equally against corporate friendly "free trade". It's insulting.

(9,323 posts)I'm arguing that Hillary supports free trade much more so than Bernie and many people on DU deny that.

(62,325 posts)access to what the Global Corps were writing as legislation for this Country. THAT ALONE was enough reason to say 'no way'.
Maybe you weren't following the story of the TPP over the past few years when Democrats who were on the Trade Committee ALERTED the public to this Corporate Written Legislation which even the Chair of the Trade Committee was denied access to.
For years they were gagged from telling the American people about what was going on other than to say that their elected Reps could not do the job they were elected to do, Contribute to any legislation that was going to be written for the American people.
No one needed to more than that initially to oppose such a takeover of our government by Corporate entities when it comes to legislation being written for the American people.
It simply blows my mind that ANY US Citizen, regardless of party affiliation, would be okay with such a thing.
But that wasn't all we learned over the years.
Leaks by Wikileaks gave us a look at WHY they did not want Congress and the American people to see what they were up to.
Thanks to all the organization and activists and leakers and those members of Congress who warned us about what was going on, at least they were forced in the end to 'ALLOW' (imagine Congress having to be ALLOWED' to take a small peek at some of what they were doing, but with so many limitations it outraged members of Congress.
We know now that the worst fears of those who opposed this 'secret deal' are confirmed and in fact what IS in it is even worse than what we already knew.
Anyone who supported this bill being written outside of the supervision of Congress clearly doesn't understand how our system of government is supposed to work, or they don't LIKE how it works.

(1,936 posts)are your quotes from the document showing exactly how the TPP allows all these evil things to happen?

Surely if TPP contained multiple negatives and was this terrible thing, lists of quotes from the recently released document would be available. It's possible.

(62,325 posts)been plowing through it, that it is WORSE than what people had already known and thought.
I'm guessing you are supporting something you ADMIT to not knowing anything about?
Persondem
(1,936 posts)All previous "revelations" were speculative and not based on the reality of the final document.
I have read about 30% (which is 30% more than you, I'll bet) of it and, at the worst, it seems is that it is wishy-washy in a section or two.
It does have teeth. It does have strong language opposing child labor, forced labor and exploitation of endangered animals. That's just in the sections I have read. It has been endorsed by the World Wildlife Fund.
If you can provide me with a recent (after 11-5-15) link to a source showing some negatives, I would appreciate it.

(14,255 posts)In any event, there is no real reason to post anything about the TPP here at DU - just gets jumped on by the same few people, and, really, accomplishes nothing. I am more heartened by having a cashier at the grocery store where my grandson works ask me if I knew anything about it - and then he proceeded to say why he thought some of the copyright stuff was awful. And I made sure he knew who opposed it, and who pushed for it
Grandson says the break room is pretty political these days. Almost all Bernie supporters.
There are some organizations that are fighting this, No need to fight it here. And the citizens of other countries are just as appalled. Not just us. In the nicest possible way, I don't really care what you think of the TPP, or if you think it is swell. Not relevant.
And - if the TPP disappeared tomorrow, that would not make Hillary one bit more palatable to me.
My attitude towards the TPP - no vote or support from me for anyone who voted for Fast Track, votes for the TPP, or shilled for it. Bottom line.
Persondem
(1,936 posts)tariff based. I could quote you the section but you say you don't care that much. (Odd that you cared enough to respond to me though).
You are basing your opinion on the BS crystal ball idea of TPP, not the real thing. Until I see quotes from actual sections (e.g. the copyright section) showing the bad language and "evil" intent then everything you and the anti Clinton echo chamber crowd say about TPP is garbage.
