___On Thursday, Trump didn’t rule out making Muslims get a special form of identification. He’s also previously said that he’d “absolutely” close mosques as part of an anti-ISIS measure.

During an appearance Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” O’Malley said Trump’s plans are about as anti-American as you can get from the candidate that pledges to “Make America Great Again.”

“When you hear people like Donald Trump talking about wanting to do ID cards based on religion, what the hell is that?” O’Malley said. “I mean, how is that at all American?”

After his initial comments on Thursday, Trump said later during a stop in Iowa that “there should be a lot of systems” beyond a database for Muslims.

While Bush said we need to stop “manipulating people’s angst and fears,” O’Malley agreed. “We’ve got to put the brakes on the fear and politics of pander.”

He also said there are some real dangers with various plans floated out there in the war against ISIS.

“You can’t trade your privacy or your freedom for your security, otherwise what the hell are we defending as a country?” O’Malley said.
