A meaningful primary requires a serious discussion of issues among the candidates themselves. Either add more debates or dont bar candidates from participating in additional forums.

(30,058 posts)Sanders has not performed very well, are you sure you want more exposure on his lack of foreign affairs.

(35,619 posts)I consider Sanders knowledgeable about foreign affairs.
But I want more debates regardless of which candidate that helps. There are lots of questions we haven't had answered. What does Hillary Clinton think of "Chained CPI"? What does she think of ISDS?

(30,058 posts)He danced over to giving his opening statement about finance. He dances around a lot. He is ask a question and the answers is not even on the subject ask. So far the debates has not been his friend.

(35,619 posts)The candidates were told, "You will each have one minute for an opening statement to share your thoughts about the attacks in Paris, and lay out your vision for America."
Bernie Sanders was the only one who used his opening minute to answer both parts of that question.

(30,058 posts)DICKERSON: So let's get started. You will each have one minute for an opening statement to share your thoughts about the attacks in Paris, and lay out your vision for America. First, Senator Sanders.
SANDERS: Well, John, let me concur with you and with all Americans who are shocked and disgusted by what we saw in Paris yesterday.
Together, leading the world, this country will rid our planet of this barbarous organization called ISIS.
I'm running for president, because as I go around this nation, I talk to a lot of people. And what I hear is people's concern that the economy we have is a rigged economy. People are working longer hours for lower wages, and almost all of the new income and wealth goes to the top one percent.
And then on top of that, we've got a corrupt campaign finance system in which millionaires and billionaires are pouring huge sums of money into super PACS heavily influencing the political process.
What my campaign is about is a political revolution -- millions of people standing up and saying, enough is enough. Our government belongs to all of us, and not just the hand full of billionaires.

However, it bothers me that there aren't more debates. What is the DNC's job? To help get democrats elected. If Clinton is not the nominee then the DNC has done a tremendous disservice to their candidate by preventing people from getting familiar with their candidate. As it stands the DNC looks gutless.
The DNC should schedule debates so that people can get familiar with the candidates. They shouldn't be trying to protect the party's preferred candidate by reducing visibility to all candidates. That is not democratic.
On second thought maybe I will sign.

(94,741 posts)feel the same way about "signing" online petitions.
BTW - for those not familiar with fundraising, this is what's known as a "butterfly net". You gave your name and email address to CREO and can expect many requests for money in response.

(1,771 posts)Any candidate has a variety of venue options they could pursue to discuss issues and such. There is only one candidate that is benefiting from the "debates".... not sure why you'd want to continue this.
Issues alone do not make a good Candidate.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)It's just a guess on my part, but I'd imagine that this requirement is one that prevents two or more candidates from colluding to participate in a debate that intentionally (or "accidentally" excludes another.
"There is only one candidate that is benefiting from the "debates".... not sure why you'd want to continue this."
Agreed.
