A Reading List I'm Pretty Sure Bernie Sanders Would Approve Of...

And... if you read nothing else here, do NOT miss Mark Twain's 'King Leopold's Sililoquy"

Everybody loved Twain's humor and stories of Huck Finn, and Tom Sawyer...

But when he came back from Africa and told this story... he was blacklisted... on the outs as an author...

He was fucking with Ford, Standard Oil, and especially Firestone...

Why ???

Rubber.

He was also a Socialist, BTW.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

"Are You Alright ???" Why is this poster always insinuating that there must be something wrong with someone who identifies as a minority. It's either Stockholm syndrome or some other disorder that makes them disagree with him? I serioulsy don't think it's a matter of ignorance, but more a matter of condescending bullshit.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Nov 27, 2015, 12:25 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I have no idea what this alert means or what its purpose is, and I don't see any TOS violations. This alert trolling and stalking is getting out of hand.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh, FFS, alerter...it was a (very) mildly snarky quip...grow a fucking skin.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I understand that there's some sort of ongoing flame war here, but this is still a really weak alert.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Another whining, useless alert.
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given

9. A George Orwell quote for you:
Fri Nov 27, 2015, 12:17 AM
Nov 2015
The coloured worker cannot be blamed for feeling no solidarity with his white comrades. The gap between their standard of living and his own is so vast that is makes any differences which may exist in the West see negligible. In Asiatic eyes the European class struggle is a sham. The Socialist movement has never gained a real foothold in Asia or Africa or even among the American Negroes: it is everywhere side-tracked by nationalism and race-hatred, Hence the spectacle of thoughtful Negroes getting ready to vote for Dewey, and Indian Congressman preferring their own capitalism to the British Labour Party. There is no solution until the living standards of the thousand million people in this world who are not "white" can be forced up to the same level as our own. But as this might mean temporarily lowering our own standards the subject is systematically avoided by Left and Right alike.

Most of Africa wasn't independent then. You can see that parties belonging to the Socialist International are in government in Angola, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Mozambique, Nambia, Niger, South Africa, and Tanzania. There are others where they are part of a coalition government.

Circumstances have changed. But the facts of the gaps and lack of feelings of solidarity have only grown larger.
