A dragged out contest leads to a brokered convention in which Ron Paul wins on the second ballot by stealth infiltrating the other campaigns' delegates. The convention breaks down into chaos as all party elders refuse to accept the verdict and Romney, Santorum, and Newt all declare that they will run independently as the TRUE Republican candidate since Paul stole the nomination. Obama wins 48 states, the House switches back, and Karl Rove is institutionalized.

If the conservatives keep this up (it's worth noting no delegates were awarded last night) Paul could turn into a real "spoiler". He may not actually get the nomination, but the GOP will look heavy handed and horribly UNdemocratic in their proceedings in any effort to block Paul. Even people that don't support him may react negatively to him being "cheated" in any way out of a legimate shot at the nomination.

convention, they can put someone else in? They have got to be
concerned about the high numbers of people who still want someone
else. But, they can't inject someone new now...only if it's deadlocked.
They need Newt to drop out though...to consolidate the Not-Romneys.

All of this indecision about a candidate is really just a symptom of
the bigger issue. The Republican party is fractured in half between
moderates and crazier right wing nuts.
