2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWanna know why Bernie is surging in Iowa?
I am beside myself. This video looks like something the Bernie campaign would produce.
It's from Bloomberg Politics. And it's beautiful!
This is what the Iowa Sander's campaign looks and feels like.
We're working hard for Bernie and our country!

(24,411 posts)last night in my town, a small suburb of Des Moines. 900 people braved single-digit freezing temps to hear Bernie speak on a Sunday night.
He spoke for 80 minutes to a very exited crowd!
So many media members there! At least ten cameras. Mark Halperin and John Heilemann were there. The New York Times and other print outlets.
I get the distinct feeling that the media blackout is officially over!

(53,041 posts)He's outspending Clinton by a wide margin. It was 2 to 1 at one point.
That of course assumes he is actually surging. To know that we have to see the results of more polls.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)only on Iowa television ads, at one point. Who knows if that's true anymore. Clinton just produced a new ad that was put together quickly and is airing now in Iowa.
Bernie's campaign, as a whole, is not outspending the Clinton campaign 2 to 1.
Just in Iowa television ad dollars for one time period.
Just so we're clear.

(24,411 posts)There are times that I feel like a fact checker.
I can debunk so many tidbits that they post, just from attending Clinton and Bernie events.
I hope that DU has a members from NH, SC and NV who can do the same.
I get kind of tired of these posts that seem to intentionally mislead. Most people have no way of knowing that what is posted is complete bunk, and this disinformation stands.
At least in Iowa I can say, "No, no...I was there. That's not true."
I knew there was something off when I saw that Hillary's events were not well attended. Her supporters kept insisting that she was purposely organizing "small" events because she was "listening." I went to one of her events at the lavish Iowa Historical Society in downtown Des Moines. There were 2,500 people there in this same venue, for Hillary in 2008. Only 400 showed a couple of weeks ago. And there was no listening that I saw! She gave a 40 minute speech and then left. So...it just takes one person to debunk the bunk.

(11,945 posts)Bernie was warm and receptive to them, welcomed a meeting with Sandra Bland's mother and sister, talked about Sandra in the first debate. Hillary was short, high-handed, confronting, lecturing, superior toward BLM representatives.
Hillary only "listens" to the sound of checks being written.

I was cringing inside.
How can ANYONE be THAT disconnected.
I have no doubt that she believed she was "listening".

on a private jet, and has been doing so since early in 2015.
Can you point to any source--article, blog, etc. that reports how Bernie is outspending Clinton in Iowa?
She has a huge luxury bus for her paid field organizers who travel with her to all Iowa events. There must have been 100 of them with her at her event in Des Moines. Great people doing a terrific job for her. However, that isn't cheap.
Bernie has a handful of paid staffers at events, but they don't arrive on a luxury bus. They drive their own cars. The bulk of the organizers at Bernie events are volunteers.
There is no way that Bernie's Iowa campaign is outspending Clinton in Iowa. I've only been to a few of their events, and the differences in how they run their campaigns is very noticeable. One isn't positive or negative. However, it's obvious that Clinton is burning through more money.
I know that he did outspend her on television ad buys, during a period in December. Maybe you are confused. The Des Moines Register reported in mid-November that she had spent a total of $2.46 million and Bernie $787,000. So, even though he may have outspent her in December for tv ads, it is highly likely that Clinton has outspent Bernie in total television-ad spending in Iowa.
Again, can you point to any source--article, blog, etc. that reports figures how Bernie is outspending Clinton in Iowa?

(62,276 posts)She only has more now because she got $25 million more in fundraising. It was looking that Sanders was going to have a cash advantage going into IA. Now she's forced to go after two states, so I've always said Sanders had the cash advantage (even though, yes, her reserves went back up).

The Des Moines Register reported on November 8 that the Clinton campaign had $33 million cash on hand at the end of 3rd quarter.
But, you're suggesting that she only had "a couple of million COH" in the "last quarter". Did she burned through $31 million then?
Plus, according to you, she raises another "$25 million" from "fundraising".
So, she had $33 million, plus the $25 million you said she raised.

(24,411 posts)I love being involved with this amazing campaign.
I am but a very tiny sliver of this big grass-roots machine.
Last night, I was one of several volunteers who had the opportunity to meet Bernie. He met us in a small classroom before his big rally. He thanked us and he was so gracious. He was very funny!
He wanted to hear from us, what we were hearing from voters, trends, feedback, etc. one woman commented that a voter said, "I'm hearing that we shouldn't vote for Bernie because we really need him in the Senate."
Bernie laughed so hard his face turned red! He said, "Oh you're going to be hearing all kinds of funny things in the coming weeks and days! Thats right let's just keep me in the Senate!".
He assured us that he intended to serve our country as President, from the White House.
Thought I'd share that. It was pretty funny!
Was really cool to be within a few feet of him.

(11,945 posts)He doesn't delegate someone else to do this interface; he chooses direct, personal interaction. Bernie really knows what he's doing. I think he would handle the day-to-day of the presidency very well, and people would enjoy working with and for him.
I'm so glad you're doing this work in Iowa, CoffeeCat. Thank you!

(9,314 posts)That video is indeed very inspiring. And to know that people are coming from out of the Country to volunteer is mindboggling. The excitement is so very real, and Bernie drives that point home at the very end when he describes his standing in Iowa and NH as being on the verge of being able to score the biggest political upset in history (words to that effect). WOW.
Thanks for posting this.

From other countries? Now that is something. A source of good for the world. Again, how often do you hear that anymore?
This is how you do it. Gone are the days of Hollywood style campaigns with little substance but lots of glamour. THIS is what it takes to move the people. I sure hope he can pull this out, I am certainly feeling very positive. Bloomberg has done him some solids here the last week or so. I sense a tidal wave coming.
We just donated to put up a billboard in a busy area of Topeka, Kansas. If we get enough money I will go in and take a picture and post it here. There is a pretty active group here, lots of very young energy and lots of old, experienced leading. I wish my health was better so we could do more. Still, doing what we can.

I am registering voters weekly twice a week for next two months.
We are having debate parties, fund raisers at local places with bands where owners give place for free and give profits to Bernie.
Another owner showing films in back room of pub weekends with Bernie for college kids and donating profits to Bernie, registering voters at both places.
