With Democratic Race Narrowing, Clinton Rips Into Sanders

By Lisa Lerer and Ken Thomas?|?AP January 12 at 1:26 PM

AMES, Iowa — Facing a narrowing primary contest, Hillary Clinton ripped into rival Bernie Sanders on Tuesday, saying the Vermont senator was offering unrealistic policies and overstating his anti-establishment credentials.

For days, Clinton has cast Sanders as a less forceful advocate for gun control, targeting a 2005 vote he cast that gave immunity to gun manufacturers. On Tuesday, she broadened her critique, arguing that if Sanders wouldn’t combat the National Rifle Association, he can’t be trusted to take on other special interests.

“If you’re going to go around saying you stand up to special interests then stand up to that most powerful special interest — stand up to the gun lobby,” she said, as she accepted the backing of a major gun control advocacy group.

Clinton added: “Don’t talk to me about standing up to corporate interests and big powers. I’ve got the scars to show for it.”

The new assault marks an effort by Clinton to undermine the central argument of Sanders’ campaign— that the Vermont Senator is an outsider offering liberals a “political revolution.”

What she said:
"Don’t talk to me about standing up to corporate interests and big powers. I’ve got the scars to show for it.”

What she meant:
"Don't talk to me about standing up to in line for corporate interests checks and big powers donations. I’ve got the scars millions to show for it.”

It's literally an issue which has close to zero importance to many people as they realize how bad the legislation was.

She should be attacking Bernie on foreign policy/strength if anything. "Who can you see best standing up next to Putin" etc.

Scars from battling corporate interests? C'mon. She has however battled Republicans pretty effectively.

As for foreign policy, i'm not sure they want to open that door by campaigning on it. It would spawn questions on her Iraq vote and the terrible state of Guatemala, Libya, Syria, Yemen.....

My take on the candidates' demeanor - Bernie sounds and looks angry, about the current state of this country. Hillary looks and sound really irritated - about people daring to cross Hillary. NO, that is not sexist, I am a woman, and I know the difference between irritated and angry.
