Justice for Cecily - OWS activist has another court date

(forwarded message)
Cecily is back in court bright and early tomorrow morning! We’ll be in Part C (2nd floor) of 100 Centre St. in Manhattan. We aren’t entirely certain what will happen tomorrow - both sides are ready to go to trial, so if there’s a judge free to take the case we’ll go into pretrial motions about the admissibility of various evidence (mainly related to her last trial). However, if there’s no judge free the start of the trial could get postponed another week or two. Regardless, we’ll be packing the courtrooms once again to show support for our friend and comrade!

For updates, please RSVP to the facebook event here. You can also see updates, news and quotes for the courtroom on the twitter hashtag #Justice4Cecily. Finally, the quickest way of joining news is by joining our celly - just text @CecilysTrial to 23559!

If you’re unfamiliar with the details of this court case, here’s some more information:

Cecily was arrested again by the NYPD on December 7th of 2013 for observing and attempting to video-document the arrests of two young people in the Union Square subway station.

Cecily saw two plainly dressed men begin to abusively confront and interrogate a young couple. When she began to question them about the harassment, it turned out the men were police officers who then arrested them. Cecily followed them to the subway precinct, watching to make sure they were not further abused, and began to take a video of the arrest process from outside the precinct doors.

The officers then arrested Cecily for obstruction of government administration, even though the people being arrested were given summonses and released. She was treated especially poorly by the police when they discovered she was awaiting trial for the incident at OWS where she was sexually assaulted and then charged with felony assault from M-17, 2012.

For these new charges, Cecily faces up to a year back on Rikers. The allegations made against her on these charges were also critical to the verdict the jury came out with in the past trial, even though nothing was proven. We hope to see you tomorrow to fight to protect our right to film the police and to protect Cecily from further persecution!

Love and solidarity,

Lucy Parks
