Yet, during a recent gathering of girlfriends, she seemed to be the target of as many cougar jokes as Mariah Carey was in 2008 when she married Nick Cannon. (At 32, Cannon is a decade younger than the singer.) It probably didn't help that, at the start of their relationship, my friend's suitor couldn't legally accompany her to the bar.

I can pick on her all I want for dating someone the same age as my younger sister. And I'll probably continue to do so -- out of love, of course. But truth be told, there's less of a cultural gap between her and her younger beau than there was between my last boyfriend and me. hmmmm, another myth left in the dust. it is truly amazing how fast women have evolved once they gained freedom and independence even though this is all about our biology.

Few years ago, I wrote a parody of Wendy Cope's poem to A. E. Housman. Hers started "I am in love with A. E. Housman," and mine started "I am in love with Wendy Cope." Guy messaged me with "Dude, she's too old for you." I responded "Is she dead? Then she's not too old."

3. That evolution thing is bullshit

According to some, What you would look for, if you were male are signs of successful ability to breed i.e. having already survived producing a child.

The age thing is yet another social construct from when daughters were sold as commodities, along with high maternal death rates.

Which has no practical meaning these days anyway. Do people honestly believe that evolution just stops?

People tend to date within their own age group, there are exceptions everywhere of a few years.

That being said, Older men date younger women for a variety of reasons, my personal believe it has less to do with evolution and more to do an older women is less inclined to put up with bullshit, the male is looking for a younger 'body' or wants to show her off.

There are always the 'younger minded' of either gender, who feel intellectually stimulated in the presence of youth, as we CAN become hidebound in our ideas and opinions as we grow older, leaving nothing open for discussion anymore.

it is fun to listen to a teenage boys snark about this issue.

personally, i have always been comfortable in my age range. never was interested in any real age difference. and absolutely, that is just me.

i am older than my hubby... though not enough that we even think about it. we are not gonna find mates exact age. one is gonna have to be older than the other. and no way does society get to make us choose only one way
