Is it possible to post a personal avatar or are we just relegated to the set choice? if we can insert a personal avatar how is it done.

how does one go about buying a star and how much do they cost? if paying for a star requires a credit card i'm a little apprehensive about giving out such info after the big hack shut down the site for 2 weeks.

3. Yes, you must buy a donor star in order to have your own avatar.

They cost whatever you want to spend.

If you click on the My Account tab at the top of the page, you will see another tab called Star Membership.

All the details on donating and also what you receive as a star member are shown there. You don't have to use a credit card.

4. Star member payments aren't made through DU's server,

they use Paypal. This was confirmed by Skinner in the thread "About the hack", [div style="display:inline; background-color:#FFFF66;"]We can say for certain that donor data, such as credit card numbers or addresses, were not compromised because that information is handled by PayPal and never passes through to our servers.
