DU Community Help
Related: About this forumHey all. So I was trying to fill in my profile info...
Male / USA / Ohio.
But it won't take. I fill it in but when I go back to my profile the info is gone.
Do you need a star for that, or am I not doing it right maybe? Thanks!

Good luck!

(8,244 posts)Just not the profile items.

(68,644 posts)Not sure what the bug is in your case, but the process for me is to click on profile, then the blue word "edit", then fill in the data and hit "update".
Maybe it matters what your visibility setting is.
Your signature is a hoot.

(8,244 posts)1. and then I found five dollars
May 14, 2010 Urban Word of the Day
a phrase used at the end of a story that had really no point to be told to someone. used at the end of boring stories to make them seem more interesting and worthwhile.
"yesterday i went to the fridge and took out a yogurt but put it back and got an apple instead.
...and then i found 5 dollars."
2. and then I found five dollars
When you start off telling a story that you think is extremely interesting, but as you keep talking, you realize it is actually very boring, this phrase can be thrown in at the end of the story to try and make it slightly better.
People always love a good "finding money" story.
Jane: "Oh my God the craziest thing happened to me over the weekend! I was walking down Main St, and I saw that the light ahead was about to change. So I had to run to cross the street and I just made it in time... And then I found five dollars!"

(18,186 posts)But driving to work that day after I asked, i realized you had done a clever thing by making it link to the poster's individual journal - sort of a nihilistic statement on each person's vanity and blah-blah.
i was thinking how cool that was and wondering how you came up with the idea and then - see - it was just a messup.
But a cool one!

(8,543 posts)So it probably wasn't your fault that the link got goofy.
Some characters are turned into html entities in signatures (off the top of my head I know double-quotes and ampersands are), so when you edit a signature they often show up as " and & in the edited signature. Based on Ptah's post above, it looks like you edited your signature a few times and the link kept getting an amp; added each time:
[div style="margin-left:1.5em; color:#000099;"]http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=journals&uid=277727
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=journals&uid=277727
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=journals&uid=277727
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=journals&uid=277727
In the future, be sure to double check your signature after an edit to make sure no unwanted characters were added.

(8,244 posts)Is there any guide here to create signature?
(like adding image, new line and link)
I was looking around for the general guidance, but I can't find it :p
For example
I want to add below in my signature.

(8,543 posts)Once you click the 'Update' button, it should show you the information you just entered. Is that displaying correctly and then disappears if you leave and return to your profile page? Or does the information just never show up? (Whatever you enter should also be visible on your Journal page.)
Maybe try it with a different browser and/or device to see if there's just some glitch with that function on your current setup. Or if you can't do that, at least tell us what you're using so someone with a similar setup can test to see if they have the same issue.
Yep after I click the 'Update!' button on the Profile Information section it shows the values from the three fields I filled in. I left the other fields blank. But it shows the values all mushed together like so: MaleUSAOhio. And then when I navigate away from the page and come back, the info is gone.
I also put info in the "About Me" section and clicked it's "Update!" button. But it just shows nothing.
Tried it with current versions of Google Chrome and Firefox on Windows.

(I've been kind of wary of always getting the latest versions of FireFox until the wrinkles are ironed out - although I am getting pretty far behind.) But our setups are not miles apart, and you are also having the same issue in Chrome - so it would appear that the problem might be on the DU end of things.
It seems like there is some issue with the parsing of the data. The only two things I can think on your side is to also try it with IE, and maybe try entering things in either one at a time or try putting something in every field (if it works, go back and delete unwanted entries).
Odds are that one of the DU admins is going to have to look at this to sort it out. The same thing may have happened to someone else, so they might have an idea on how to fix it.
[div style="margin-left:2.8em; text-indent:-2.8em;"]ETA: Looks like this has happened before (link), they tried a whole bunch of different browsers, OS, and devices. I don't see that it was ever resolved though...

(146,286 posts)Try refreshing your profile after you go back to it. You may be seeing a cached version, especially if you're using the back button to look at it.
