I refused jury duty on a post that was a backhand compliment to Joe Manchin following Manchin's insults against Joe Biden on 11/4/22 about Biden's coal stance.
I think the poster broke the rules, but not the spirit of the rule.
At what point do we give a poster a pass on venting against an elected D who goes on a personal attack against another elected D (Biden) on an issue where most Ds agree with the attacked D? Of note, Manchin is not currently in a partisan campaign for re-election.
Of note... lived in WV in the 1990s, voted against Manchin in 2 primaries (governor and sec of state). I agree he's the best we're going to get for WV right now. But I also think Biden is the best we've got right now until a Bidenless or competitive primary starts, so there's also that.

(7,667 posts)We are fortunate to have a Democratic Senator in WV - they are very hard to come by in a rural state.

(6,766 posts)Maybe we should pull up Manchin's personal DU posts and see how he has posted here?

(5,944 posts)The question before jurors was essentially, "Should people on DU be allowed to condemn Democratic Senator Joe Manchin for his attack on Democratic President Joe Biden?"
Since any choice a juror made would involve acquiescence to negative criticism of a Democratic officeholder, I think the best that jurors could do was to pick a side. My own sympathies are squarely with President Biden on this one.
