How do you insert graphics, links etc. in thread that you're posting?

I'm trying to create a thread for the first time and it requires me to either insert actual jpegs or the links to those jpegs. I couldn't figure out how to do that.

So, I decided to try a work around. I created the entry in my blog on blogspot.com and then started to post the thread with the link to my blog entry inserted.

When I preview my post the link(s) don't show. Since the link is the content (it's a joke that I'm putting into Humor that I think is hilarious...remains to be seen if anyone agrees) I don't want to post something empty and then get righteously flamed.

Is there a primer somewhere on how to use this site's software? I've been known to read manuals in the past. RTFM.

... just copy the web address into your post - like this:

[div style="margin-left:1.5em; color:#000099;"]http://www.democraticunderground.com/imgs/logo-du3-150x48.gif
The image must be a jpg, gif, or png to display. Putting the above address in your post should result in this:

[div style="margin-left:1.5em;"]
[div style="width:100%; border-bottom: 1px solid #bfbfbf;"]
The same is true for simple links - copying a web address into your post like this:

[div style="margin-left:1.5em; color:#000099;"]http://www.democraticunderground.com/12562486#op
Should turn it into a link:

[div style="margin-left:1.5em;"]http://www.democraticunderground.com/12562486#op
The easy way to do custom text for links is to type the text in your post, highlight it, then hit the 'link' button above the 'Message text' box and copy the web address into the resulting popup box requesting it. That should insert code that looks like this:

[div style="margin-left:1.5em; color:#000099;"][link:http://www.democraticunderground.com/|DU3 Home Page]
Which will hopefully result in this:

[div style="margin-left:1.5em;"]DU3 Home Page
(Of course you can always type the code in using the above format if you wish.)

There are a few weird issues with links that may cause them to not work properly, check out this post if you are having issues to see if they have been identified (there are solutions in that post to the known problems). Also check out the unofficial basic html lookup table for other code that can be used here at DU3.

And don't hesitate to ask, someone is usually along before too long that has some good advice.

Good luck,
