I am not sure how much democratic or republic i am but i am more leaning towards you all as i have read that..democrats are more open to immigrants.
I have 2 options to live in USA : Florida (Tampa) Or Texas (Austin)...i am not sure which one i will choose...can you guys tell me pros and cons of each ?
{Company has offered me job and told me to select location according to my wish}

(205,035 posts)It's great to have you with us! And if you want to learn about US government and politics, you've sure come to the right place!
As for choosing where you'll live, you'll have to ask those here who live there. If I had a choice, I'd choose where they have better weather, but then it's winter here and extremely cold in NY. Hoping you learn a lot and have fun here, too.

(363 posts)Hi,
Yeah, i hope to learn a lot from this forum. I don't know which state and city to choose yet...i will do my more research soon..i just wanted to know views of members of this forum as both states are republican and wanted to know which one will be comparably better and why?

(205,035 posts)Most states have both Democratic and Republican areas. I live in New York, but in the northeast, so my district is mostly Republican. Most of New York is, but it's a blue state because of New York City. So we're lucky enough to have a Democratic governor, two Democratic senators and just elected a Democratic congressman. Check out the state forums to learn more!

(216 posts)Austin is as "blue" as it gets in Texas. An island of diversity, in a sea of red.
Welcome to DU. Keep Austin weird... as the saying goes.

(4,234 posts)Nice to have you on DU.
Why don't you just go to Google and get some information about each city and read up about each one?
It's hard for somebody else to suggest a place that YOU would like.
If it were me, I'd choose Austin. I've lived there and it's a nice climate and a friendly place. Never lived in Tampa area.
Good luck.

(5,609 posts)speaking as a native Floridian, this state continues to suffer under a serious economic decline with little hope for improvement in sight. My best advice would be to check it out thoroughly before moving here.

(3,502 posts)I live in NY and do not speak from any experience, but from hearing what those who've been in each city have to say, Austin sounds awesome and Tampa not so much. If I was told I had to make that choice, I'm pretty sure I'd go with Austin.

(6,106 posts)I don't have any experience with these two places. I just want to welcome you to DU and to the U.S. If you have a hard time "settling in", just come here with your questions. I think you'll see that people will be more than happy to help you out. Coming from India, I think you'd have a hard time adjusting to any northern state, weather-wise. I think it's great that you get to choose where you're going to live!
Don't forget to post when you get here, OK?

(5,756 posts)It's supposedly a very liberal progressive place in the otherwise conservative Texas. It has high-tech companies and is working on developing a public transportation system along with making biking more available.
Tampa, not so much. I lived in FL. Tampa was not a place we went for fun.

(6,151 posts)You've been a member longer than I, but I still want to welcome you. This is a great website with some wonderful people, as I saw immediately.
Mind if I toss in my 2 cents about Florida versus Texas? I had to live in Texas (due to marriage) for more years than I care to remember, and I can't think of any liberal areas there. Though there might be some. As for Florida, I know it has a large section (the middle?) where more liberal minds gravitate. One thing you might do would be to contact some of the major Democratic leaders in each potential site. They could give you a better idea of what things are like.
One thing you DON'T want to do is to bother listening to anything the bleeping GOP says. They're a bunch of lying dogs, period. They'd lie on their grandmother's grave for a vote or a buck.
Come to think of it, you might like San Antonio, where one of the Castro brothers is Mayor, I seem to recall. He expects Texas to turn blue again before too long. That would be the day!
