Hi all. I got a mail telling me after 10 posts I have to come here with an intro.
I live in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. I am early 50's. First one in my family to go get any college even though I did not finish because of money.
Have always voted but not always a well informed one. The election of Bush in 2000 bothered me a lot on how it happened and I have not been happy with government since. I don't think they even care about lying to us in pretend caring for the regular (not rich) people.
The more the muckymucks whine about evil liberals the more I know the are afraid they will be forced to stop stealing our future.
Not many people around me bother much with politics so a lady at work mentioned I might like this.

(6,692 posts)reading here for the last few weeks has been an eye opener. You folks that have been here a long time have been so welcoming. It has not been easy to find a board where people are so decent.
Thanks for the welcome.

(11,491 posts)I started paying attention after 2000 also and in 50's.
I joined here I think around 2003, saw a link for it on Michael Moore's site.
It can get heated here, don't let it bother you, there are a lot of us that don't post as much and are serious about what we believe, its not a game.

(66,462 posts)I lived in Western Kentucky (Ft. Knox) for a total of about five years. I liked it there. I had the opportunity to visit the hills of Eastern Kentucky once, and marveled at the landscape. The people were nice.
Glad to have you here...

(205,990 posts)Welcome to DU! I never paid a lot of attention to politics, either, but always voted, mostly for Democrats. It was 9/11 that woke me up, scared me witless and that's when I started researching and reading, eventually found DU and it's been my home online for more than 10 years now. I've learned more here than I can possibly describe and also got active, worked on my (Democratic) congressman's campaigns.
I'm in NY, but in a pretty red district, so I can sympathize. Most of my friends are liberals, though, a pleasant surprise. Now that I'm informed, I'm horrified by a lot, but I'd rather know and not be blindsided. And I agree that most voters aren't informed, let alone most people. I try and spread the word whenever I can, LOL. Hope you've found a home here, too...

(12 posts)I've just signed up too. I was a member years ago but that was a different version and different mental capacity of a "middle aged person". It's good to be back!
