Progressive Militia?

I'm still in favor of better background checks and more scrutiny preventing terrorists from getting weopons easily, BUT -

What do people think about starting a Progressive Militia?

It's my brother's idea, actually.

Are there such groups already?

I mean, all the weapons should be legal and we should train properly.

One good thing is that a progressive militia would allow a diverse group. All races, genders, creeds, religions, and LGBTQ. (I'm lez,btw.)

All to be ready and available if we need to defend ourselves.

Those weapons should be for militia use only. Training and pracitsing shoukd be done regularly, but withing the confines of militia use. That way we can own the weapons and not have someone's 20 year old kid take them to school and shoot up the dorms. We need more checks and balances in our gun usage.

they'll get a media blitz followed by an even bigger nra-led fear/ad campaign and the right-wing militias will double in number and triple their arsenals.

i certainly see the initial appeal, but this would quickly backfire.

become bigots, racists, and white supremacists? Right-wing militias only carry guns to make them look big and strong, but at their core they are bullies and cowards, and anti-social, anti-American asshats.

This is a Group whose SOP is the reduction of gun violence -- not the promotion of more gun violence. The correct answer would be to pass laws that would not allow unstable and violent people to have guns in the first place.

If you actually want a civil war, there are many in progress in other parts of the world that you and your brother could volunteer for.

Well, they'll allow blacks to have just enough guns to be able to justify killing on the basis of mistaking a wallet or a cell phone or maybe just a shadow for a gun.

And if there ever *were* any draconian gun control, it certainly wouldn't be applied equally....

Imagine an all black NRA with millions of members. There would be a national gun round up, but only those black guns. I would enjoy watching gunners justify taking people's guns. Quoting them back to themselves later would be even funner

Named after Republican assemblyman Don Mulford, the bill was crafted in response to members of the Black Panther Party who were conducting armed patrols of Oakland neighborhoods while they were conducting what would later be termed copwatching. 26. You need to appreciate the irony of the situation.

At long last, the U.S. has opted for just the sort of scary, terroristic, lunacy-directed government that has furnished the raging paranoia that has propelled the pro-gun movement for decades. But the thing is---it's a right-wing government, and the pro-gunners have been in the right-wing corner, all this time. It was supposed to be a left-wing regime that would take their guns away---Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton were the villains with the black helicopters. Trust me: your confusion is mild, compared to what your neighbors in the NRA are dealing with.

And I'm not going to tell you to run out and buy a gun. But I'm happier now than ever that I have a few, given how bad things are getting. Advocating gun control is not contrary to reasonable self-defense measures---no matter what the pro-gunners tell you.
