Another actor that plays the same role over and over......

Charles Boyer. Watching the movie with Boyer and Betty Davis in, “All this and heaven too”. He does play the same type of character as in the movie with Ingrid Bergman, Gaslight. Before the movie, All this and heaven too was made…….when France declared war on Germany, Boyer at the age of 40 enlisted in the army of France, his birth country, was made a private and fought in W W 2.

weeks later once in NYC atop the Empire State Building. She, Irene Dunne, gets crippled in a car accident on her way to meet him and never makes it.

He waits and waits then finally, sadly leaves.

It's real tearjerker.

It's a different role for him. The film was remade later with Cary Grant I believe. Boyer's was better IMO.

Love Affair had 91 tomatoes, and Cary Grant’s Affair to remember had 61 tomatoes. Guess the rotten tomatoe folks liked Love Affair better too.

as it's a different role for him, whereas Cary Grant, his usual suave self, plays Cary Grant again.

7. It could be because of Irene Dunne, too.

I liked her performance far better than Deborah Kerr"s. Also, "An Affair to Remember" (which I like) was so similar to "A Love Affair" that it was practically a knockoff.

9. Practically a knockoff is right. And the re-make wasn't that many years later...

for the Boyer/Dunne version to be forgotten. Guess they wanted to capitalize on Cary Grant's popularity at the time.
