Related: About this forumSANDERS WINS: Western Illinois Univ. Picks Presidents with 100% Accuracy Since 1975, 11/15
This WIU result published in Nov. 2015 came to mind today in anticipation of tomorrow's Iowa Caucus. And from the establishment doing their dance more and more to try to prevent Bernie's success. But as we know, like some insiders as well, Bernie's appeal has risen dramatically in six months, he's brought tremendous, renewed energy, ideas and vision to diverse Americans across the country and has a real chance of winning caucuses and primaries including Iowa.

Memory of the WIU mock election was jogged by NBC show "Meet the Press" today. After a panelist made another nasty remark about Bernie, Chuck the host happily tagged on "and The Socialist!", at the close of the segment. That did it. Along with many terrific posts here and knowing what's really happening on the ground, this WIU study provided another small shot in the arm for me as we anticipate tomorrow's event and others ahead.
Cheers! And as said by Canada's great social democratic political leader and Father of Medicare Tommy Douglas,
P.S. Love and appreciation to Sanders campaign workers & supporters in Iowa and everywhere contributing to the effort to elect Senator Bernie Sanders and start the country on a new and better course.

- BERNIE SANDERS WINS WIU's HISTORICALLY ACCURATE MOCK ELECTION -
THE BERN REPORT, Posted by G.A. Casebeer, Nov. 7, 2015
The Road to the White House starts at Western Illinois University
WIU recently held their traditional mock election. It is an incredibly intricate and organized event starting with primary and caucuses and finishing up with a mock general election.
Dr. Rick Hardy and Dr. John Hemingway have been leading Mock Presidential Elections since 1975. During that time, students who have participated in these mock elections have chosen the winning party with 100% accuracy and have an astonishing record in selecting presidential winners.
On the Democratic side for the Primaries Sanders won by close to a 2 to 1 margin over challenger Hillary Clinton. Martin OMalley finished the primary with about 1/18 of Bernies take of the delegates. See chart below -*open Link.

After nominating Sanders, the student Democrats put him up against Jeb Bush, who received the Republican nomination. with Bernie winning the electoral college by nearly a 4 to 1 margin and a decisive win for the popular vote.

History of the Mock Presidential Election: This simulation always takes place the year before the presidential election year, and three months before the actual Iowa caucuses. The genesis of this mock presidential election began at the University of Iowa in 1975 with two political science doctoral students, John Hemingway and Rick Hardy. In that year, students selected Jimmy Carter over Gerald Fordlong before anyone really knew of Jimmy Carter. In the years that followed, Rick Hardy expanded the format and engaged thousands of students at the University of Missouri-Columbia where students registered a perfect record of selecting the subsequent winning presidential party.
>In 2007 and 2011, Hardy and Hemingway teamed up again to conduct a massive campus-wide simulation at Western Illinois University. In 2007, Western students selected Barack Obama as president at a time when no one thought he could win! And, in 2011, students narrowly re-elected President Obama over the GOP ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan! Hows that for reality!

I was really hoping he really was dead in the water, so I hope WIU is wrong on that one.

study, pretty cool. I recall Carter v. Ford in 1975 when they started the mock election, saw the 2 candidates in a debate.

much about the process, the students involved and more. Quite interesting. In their results published in fall, 2015 Jeb was the Repub. candidate by virtue of a brokered convention with Trump who also did very well. No other GOP candidates were thought to be really credible by the group.
The mock election at WIU has been accurate and unblemished for 40 years. This one I give to the students; they know a lot as Hardy explains. And I'm optimistic.
