No doubt true...she just didn't finish the sentence, "...since I told them I wouldn't do it for less."During CNNs Democratic town hall event in New Hampshire on Wednesday, Hillary Clinton shrugged when asked why she accepted $675,000 from Wall Street investment giant Goldman Sachs to give three speeches in 2013.
Thats what they offered, Clinton said. You know, every secretary of state that I know has done that.
Well, yes and no.
In terms of delivering paid speeches, shes right: Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright the three secretaries of state before Clinton and James Baker, who served under George H. W. Bush, have given paid speeches according to the Washington Speakers Bureau, the Alexandria, Va., booking agency that represents them.
<snip>
But in terms of what theyre paid, Clintons reported $200,000-plus speaking fee appears to be well above the rates her colleagues command. According to the Washington Speakers Bureau, Albright and Baker get $40,001 and up per engagement, while Rice and Powells fees vary based on event location. Richard Armitage, Powells deputy, is far less expensive, charging $25,000 to $40,000 per speech airfare and ground transportation included...."

(687 posts)Doesn't she realize that the overwhelming majority of Americans are sick of business as usual? Hey, she says, its only normal to make ten times the median income from making a few speeches to a bunch of bankers. The presumption and the sense of entitlement are truly breathtaking.
She really does have her head in the clouds, serenely believing that her wealth and privilege are just a reward for her innate wonderfulness. Why would anybody have a problem with cashing six figure checks as a perk of having been in government? Isn't that the American Dream?
She is one lousy politician.

(12,704 posts)be president and that she'd most likely would get it. What Hillary did is to cash in on that and that looks very much like influence peddling. It stinks to high heaven. Of course she is lawyered up so everything is legit, legit but unethical.

(24,324 posts)all they need to know about Secretary Clinton.
It is so full of truth and is a lie at the same time. It is tasteless, yet honest, and yet so revealing and so pregnant with information about all that Sanders is fighting against.
Against ALL of them!!!
It should be broadcast throughout the known universe.
