Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumLOL Anybody watching msnbc? They are speechless!! New poll numbers coming
out that Bernie is trampling Hillary's #'s with women voters under 45 y/o and she's only beating him by a teeny margin with women over 45. It's hillarious - it just doesn't fit into their narrative. They don't know what to do.

(57,936 posts)We would all love to support a woman for president, but Hillary is just not right for the job. I feel sorry for her, but tonight she showed why. She is too self-centered, gets too riled and angry.
She also acts too arrogant. Bernie is a kind man. He is compassionate. No reason for Hillary to be so bitter and angry toward him.
She really does act like she thinks she deserves the presidency, like there is no reason anyone else should be running.
Fact is, Bernie is just a really, really strong candidate that we all love.
I so hoped to have a woman for president in my lifetime, but I doubt I will see it. Hillary is just not qualified. It isn't just a matter of experience. It is her personality. She really seems to react very emotionally and to take things too personally and then she has an extremely high opinion of herself.
I feel sorry for her, but I do not think she would make a good president. A president has to remain calm and kind even when it seems the world turns against her.
Obama is the perfect president in this respect. He looks to get the work done and really does not show how much the personal insults and ugliness must hurt him inside.
I just don't think Hillary has the temperament to be president. It isn't because she is a woman. It's just her temperament.

The biggest problem today is way too many people don't realize is that the REAL POWER is in Congress and without aa Dem controlled Congress, NEITHER Bernie nor Clinton will be able to get their programs through into law!

(57,936 posts)I have a sheet of rationing stamps. Apparently they made a mistake in printing my birthdate on them so they could not be used.
Those of us born during the war are really not baby boomers. My husband and I were talking today (both born during WWII) about how we can live frugally and be quite happy, how we save things and reuse and use things and don't throw stuff away sometimes even when we should. We grew up in a time of such need, when there was very little material excess. It was very different from today.
I will bet you that when Bernie is president, he will audit the entire government and find all kinds of ways to save money. That's just the way our generation is. Remember, the war started in Europe in maybe 1939. From that time on, our country was on notice. Not all people realized that the war was inevitable, but some did. And we were just barely coming out of the Great Depression. My mother was a teenager and college student during the Great Depression. She was so thrifty that she made me feel like a spendthrift.
Anyway, we have a different view of the world formed by our earliest years in relative poverty. Bernie is on the same page with us in that respect. I really don't have to have as much money as a lot of other people do to be very happy. I love nature, walking, listening to music, making things, working jigsaw puzzles and reading. I don't think young people today are so fond of those activities although a lot of people still like making things. And lots of people read but not hardcover books.

(45,806 posts)is today. Things that are so prominent in society that were never thought of when we were young. YOU ANSWERED that question for me. MY hubby & I live on social security, and are quite comfortable and happy too. Then I hear talking heads constantly talking about how seniors who have to survive on social security of constantly worrying about buying food & meds. I keep thinking I must be missing something. Your explanation opened my eyes. I still cook from scratch because you pay 4-10 times more to buy a box of ready to make stuff than doing it yourself. I keep wondering WHO in the world spends so much more to have someone else cut up their celery, onions, and carrots in the produce dept.? A 10# bag of chicken qtrs. costs $3.90 but 2 leg qtrs. in a pkg.. costs $2.19 a lb. You don't have to be a butcher to separate the thigh from the leg and freeze them in usable pkg. sizes.
We still go out for dinner, and other entertainment venues we both enjoy. In face, last year we decided we were going to go out to dinner once a week, to a different place each week, just to try all the different restaurants around here. I honestly don't have much to worry about.
Thank you for your insight.

In any case, there's probably not a one of us who wouldn't love to see a woman President in our lifetimes. But none of us, I venture to say, think that Hillary is that woman. And, at the risk of offending the Hillary people who will read this, I think there's a far greater portion of voting for her just to be voting for a woman President mindset than they recognize.
I do know I encountered that quite a bit in 2008, and that was the source of the PUMAs.

(5,400 posts)Overcoming that physical barrier is part of the work of getting elected to our nation's highest office. Secretary Clinton does what she can, and Senator Sanders does what he can. While the crowds they draw aren't the only metric, they are an easy to see one, and they do have something important to say.

(5,376 posts)Guess I'll be banned from this group for saying that right now I'm supporting Hillary, but wanted to mention that my 18-year-old son has informed me I should not be allowed to vote if I'm not going to vote for Bernie. I don't take too kindly to my own flesh and blood wanting to disenfranchise me, so I didn't bother to mention that if Bernie's the nominee, he will indeed have my vote. Perhaps said grandson is indicative of the passion young people feel about Bernie Sanders. That's great, to a point, I suppose, but still...
Anyway, I've been thinking about one of my earliest clear memories, which was the day FDR died. A lot of my childhood recollections are WWII related, since we lived in a town where a Naval Shipyard was located, my Dad worked there, and I remember lots of big ol' Army trucks rolling along the streets. Just some idle ramblings, sorry about that.
Cheers, and may the best Demcratic candidate win. Future looks pretty bleak, IMHO, if that doesn't happen.

(557 posts)Taking on Bernie was a mistake for HRC. While the media was squelching Sanders, she could say what she pleased about him, and most people were hearing nothing to the contrary. So hey, it might be true? This time, she brought out all her attacks, and he immediately refuted them. The only thing this event did was put Bernie out there for people to actually hear from him.
When voters hear what he _really_ says, not what 'they say' he says, voters like him.

They knew something was happening all along because they have been doing their utmost to avoid even speaking his name since the beginning of Bernie's campaign. It couldn't be more obvious that Bernie's message irritates the 1 percent. You'd think the bosses of msnbc were fining all the pundits $500. each time they inadvertently mentioned him.
