The mystery of Bernie Sanders missing months on a socialist commune in Israel has now been solved.
The Democratic Partys socialist presidential candidate, it turns out, volunteered at Kibbutz Shaar HaAmakim, near Haifa, in 1963.
While Sanders himself has long touted his several months on an Israeli kibbutz in the 1960s as part of his biography, Sanders campaign, along with his brother and some of his best friends have all professed lack of knowledge or memory about just what kibbutz it was. The mystery has been the topic of hot pursuit for reporters and editors in America and Israel for the past several months.
The answer came Thursday afternoon from Yossi Melman, a veteran national security correspondent in Israel. Melman tweeted that Sanders told him the answer in a 1990 interview. The original article, titled The First Socialist was reproduced on the Haaretz Hebrew web site.

(41,600 posts)and re-elected THREE times and each time he was re-elected, he got even more votes!
U.S. News and World Reports named him one of 20 BEST MAYORS in 1987!
He served in the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES in the United States Congress from 1991-2007.
He was then elected to the SENATE in 2006 and re-elected with 71% of the vote! How many politicians have had that many votes?
Vermont is now a Hammer and Sickle state? Would Vermonters elect a Stalin Socialist to the United States Congress for 25 years? I don't think so!
Bernie's political record is waaaay too long for any Red Baiting to stick in the Primary OR the GE!

(11,785 posts)No doubt Republicans will screech about it, but I don't see anyone who'd even consider voting for a Democrat caring about it.
