Question - what is it with Hillary and Paul Wellstone? She mentioned him the other nite & tonite

I just saw a few minutes of her campaign event in NH and she was quoting him.

What is the deal? Were they friends? This feels kinda creepy to me that she is envoking the name of Senator that died so tragically. Is she doing this because he was a true progressive? And if that's the reason, that is beyond creepy.

Anyone know what's going on?

She will say ANYTHING. Anyone who believes anything she says, especially since her last minute conversion to a Populist like Bernie and Wellstone.
We all know about Hillary's (non)relationship with the truth.
Nothing about her body language, affect, or voice indicates that she is being truthful now.

I was privileged to be a volunteer for the Wellstone Campaign, and a regular at his campaign office on University Ave in St Paul during his last campaign and death, and I feel personally insulted by her remarks claiming Wellstone as her own.
Wellstone spent his shortened life fighting AGAINST Conservative, Warmongering, Wall Street "Democrats" like Hillary.

For several years, I maintained contact with Minnesota DUers who could have contacted them,
but they have either been banned, or left because of the deterioration of DU.
It was my understanding that, after initial public statements and attendance at the wake, they have become secluded, and I understand that reaction. It is what I would have done.

I'm certain that someone in Minnesota will try to contact them for a statement. We will have to watch the Star Tribune for a couple of weeks. I don't believe they will be happy about Hillary trying to use them for her personal gain.

...but what more can we expect from a woman who will send her own daughter out in front of The World to LIE (so transparently and easily checked) for her own personal gain despite the damage to her own daughters reputation?

Anecdotal: It was not uncommon to run into Paul around town.
I attended his last Labor Day Picnic on Harriet Island in the Mississippi at St Paul.
My wife & I were sitting in the wet grass listening to Garrison Keillor and Jim Hightower when my wife suddenly started beating on my arm. She whispered in my ear, "Do you know who is sitting next to us??!! I looked over, and there was Paul & Shiela sitting in the wet grass just like us regular working class people. Paul was wearing cut off blue jeans and running shoes without socks.

I have to admit, I was a little star struck, but had enough reserve not to bother them.

There will be severe ramifications for you and the state of Minnesota." -- Vice President Dick Cheney to Senator Paul Wellstone (D), October, 2002, just days before Wellstone's death in a suspicious airplane "accident".

I, also, thought it odd that she has mentioned Paul Wellstone twice. I also thought it odd that Carl Bernstein (mentioned in the CNN Video someone posted today) about some in Obama Admin. really being upset with Hillary's Campaign and her chances of winning.

Bernstein mentioned at the end of his CNN interview that Bernie reminded him of "Bobby Kennedy and the "movement he had started"

I still remember my worst day at work. That is where I heard the news. So many of us were just stunned for the whole day, the whole next day. It was just horrible. It was back when I was just getting excited about voting for someone. I had written him a thank you letter just a month before the accident, thanking him for all the work he and his wife were doing for victims of domestic violence.

So, please Hillary proceed to invoke Wellstone's name, but only in Minnesota.

It's the kind of thing that never goes away. And it stings a whole lot when someone invokes them like that now if she would have championed a cause to invoke his name I would be very happy she did that even if it wouldn't make me like her more it would have given me a bit more respect for her.

Supported HRH and more than likely would have STOOD UP EARLY to endorse Bernie...unlike all the wimps in Congress who are afraid of the Clinton machine.

HRH has a lot of fucking nerve invoking Wellstone's name to prop herself up!

Paul Wellstone voted AGAINST the IWR, THE BANKRUPTCY BILL and REPEALING GLASS STEAGALL! And in his autobiography he admitted his vote for DOMA was a mistake.

Senator Wellstone further distinguished himself as a contrarian by being one of only eight members of the Senate to vote against the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999.[56]

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Wellstone

Charlie Pierce

<snip>
I'd like to think I'm not alone in thinking that it is particularly distasteful to drag the late Senator Paul Wellstone into this fight now that he can't speak for himself, especially since, DOMA aside, he likely would have been raising all kinds of loud hell about HRC's coziness with the financial community. After all, it was Wellstone who wrote, " The American polity is infected with a serious imbalance of power between elites and masses, a power which is the principal threat to our democracy." The president and vice-president are good enough for the purposes of this argument.)<snip>

1. Wellstone Acts Alone to Block Bankruptcy Bill (05/01/00) . . .

http://www.commondreams.org/views/050100-107.htm

As members of Congress try to make it more difficult for individuals to erase their debts, they've run into an obstacle: Sen. Paul Wellstone.

In 1998, Wellstone was the only senator to vote against a bill that called for an overhaul of the bankruptcy system. Now, the Minnesota Democrat is using parliamentary tactics to stall another bankruptcy bill that has strong bipartisan support.

He called the bill "unjust," saying it would impose harsh penalties on families that file for bankruptcy in good faith.

While Wellstone's move is frustrating Democratic and Republican leaders alike, consumer advocates are thrilled.

"This is the most anticonsumer piece of legislation that the Congress is considering," said Edmund Mierzwinski, consumer program director for the U.S. Public Interest Research Group in Washington, D.C. "Without Paul Wellstone, it may have already passed."

On Wellstone's DOMA vote:

In 1996, he voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act.[16] He later asked his supporters to educate him on the issue and by 2001, when he wrote his autobiography, Conscience of a Liberal, Wellstone admitted that he had made a mistake.

After voting against the congressional authorization for the war in Iraq on October 11, 2002, in the midst of a tight election, Wellstone is said to have told his wife, "I just cost myself the election

Sit down for her answer!!

She said she got some very much needed amendments attached (protect child support, other important things) which I do applaud her for if this is true.

And then she said

the only way to get these amendments attached is if she voted FOR the bill, so she did.

Does she really believe Americans are that stupid? And if that is the truth, that tells me she is too weak of a leader to fight for what she believes in.

29. Regarding Senator Wellstone
Sun Feb 7, 2016, 02:09 PM
Feb 2016

Here are some quotes attributed to the late great Senator.

Paul Wellstone/Quotes:

"Never separate the life you live from the words you speak."

"Politics isn't about big money or power games; it's about the improvement of people's lives."

"The people of this country, not special interest big money, should be the source of all political power."

"The first task in teaching is to bring to consciousness what the students already believe by virtue of their personal experiences about themselves and society."

"Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning.
Sometimes, the only realists are the dreamers."Wellstone was also a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_liberalism_in_the_United_States

A party who's idualism is Social Liberalism.

I would argue the the late Senator would probably align with the Senator from Vermont in this race.
