Bernie Sanders announces first Upstate New York campaign event

http://www.syracuse.com/politics/index.ssf/2016/04/bernie_sanders_announces_first_upstate_new_york_campaign_event.html

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will host a campaign event in Buffalo next week.

The Vermont senator and presidential candidate will host a "Future to Believe In" rally at University of Buffalo's Alumni Arena at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 11.

Sanders' Upstate appearance is the latest in a flurry of campaign events leading up to New York's April 19 primary. Hillary Clinton and her husband have blanketed the region with appearances in Syracuse, Albany, Rochester and downstate.

Ohio Governor John Kasich will make a stop in Syracuse Friday night and his opponents, Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, are both making plans for visits to Upstate cities.

Sanders currently trails Clinton for the Democratic nomination by several hundred delegates. He is fighting an uphill battle in New York, Clinton's home state. He trailed her by 12 points, according to a Quinnipiac poll from late March.

The Buffalo event is Sanders' first in Upstate New York. He has done some campaigning in New York City and will debate Clinton in Brooklyn on April 14.

The rally Monday is free and open to the public. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. Interested persons can RSVP for the event online.
