Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumStart looking at down-ballot candidates who support Bernie
No matter how this primary shakes out; we need to send good progressives to Congress, either to support Bernie or to limit the damage from Hillary. I've started getting emails from establishment Democrats: Claire McCaskill and Chuck Schumer - endorsing Jason Kander for the Senate from Missouri.
As far as I'm concerned, an endorsement from Hillary's hitwoman amounts to an endorsement for anyone running against Kander.
There is a good candidate for the Senate, a new face on the scene: Cori Bush, a good Bernie supporter.
"Cori Bush is running as an unapologetic Bernie Sanders supporter. She is running on his issues and his platform. When Bernie appeared earlier this week in Edwardsville, Illinois, Cori crossed the Mississippi to open for Bernie and she electrified the crowd of thousands. Cori is running against the Front Pages Any Democrat Will Do Campaigns candidate, Jason Kander, Missouris Secretary of State, for now. The winner of their contest will face Republican incumbent and mostly useless waste of organic molecules, US Senator, Roy Blunt."
What about your state? If you've been active in the Sanders campaign, you may have encountered some good progressive candidates who could use some support.

Mariko Yamada for State Senate
Dear Neighbor,
Our race for State Senate District 3 matters because it comes down to a simple choice to stand with me and fight for California's middle class families or watch my main opponent side with corporate special interests time after time.
I'm running to represent California's Third District because we need leaders who have the courage to take a stand, not politicians who play the game and walk away from key votes that would protect hard-working families and our environment.
Where do you stand?
This race is a choice between protecting seniors against credit card fraud or letting corporations off the hook the choice between confronting student debt or watching the next generation fall further and further behind and the choice between safeguarding our food and water supply or letting companies like Monsanto win the fight against consumers.
If you're ready to take a stand and join me in strengthening middle class families and securing a brighter future for California, please sign my petition today.
I know what it takes to lead. I served as an Assemblywoman for six years and as a Yolo County Supervisor for five, and as I travel throughout the Third State Senate District, I hear from so many residents who are frustrated that a privileged few are benefitting, while too many struggle to make ends meet. That's why we need principled leaders who aren't beholden to corporate interests.
I've earned the reputation for always doing what is right, not what's politically easy.
Just ask around.
But I can't win the fight against corporate special interests alone. I'm building a people-powered campaign, and I hope you will join our fight.
Please stand with me and sign my petition today.
Sincerely,
Mariko Yamada

(2,450 posts)I can't tell you how happy I was to see someone like him running for office in MO, I'm originally from CA. MO is the last place I'd expect it.

(872 posts)Zephyr Teachout of New York, Pramila Jayapal of Washington state and Lucy Flores of Nevada.
You may remember Lucy Flores was dropped from support by Emily's list because she supports Bernie, not Hillary.

(872 posts)State Senator Jim Sheehan and someone posted another state legislator in RI, whose name I can't remember. The whole Democratic RI establishment as far as I know is Clinton except for these people. Jim Sheehan gave a great speech at Bernie's RI rally. Also he is a voice in the wilderness trying to get a RI legislative ethics commission reestablished.

(7,006 posts)"No firewall exists between Bernie Sanders and the African American community and the African American vote," she said, drawing applause.
"When Bernie talks about things like NAFTA it devastated my community, which is Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township," she said. "We do not have the jobs that are needed for our children that can give them the $15 to $20 an hour they need in order to be able to take care of themselves and their families coming up. Those jobs used to exist in our community. We need them back."
