Veterans For Bernie! "Bernie Sanders’ surge is partly fueled by veterans"

Veterans For Bernie ?@Vets4Bernie 6h6 hours ago
I can't think of a single reason not to support Bernie Sanders. #FeelTheBern #Vets4Bernie http://vetsforbernie.org

Bernie has huge support from Veterans for whom he has worked tirelessly in order to provide for their needs.

Bernie Sanders battled over veterans issues as head of the Senate’s veterans affairs panel.

Bernie Sanders’ surge is partly fueled by veterans

DES MOINES — Vermont’s Bernie Sanders railed against the Vietnam War. He voted against invading Iraq — both times. He wants to cut the defense budget.

He might not be a friend to the military, but many veterans believe he’s gone to war for them. And that’s why they’re out there cheering for a socialist as he launches a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Even Republican Veterans are supporting him:

There’s the former Marine who drove about six hours to hear Sanders speak in Des Moines. There’s another former Marine, this one a registered Republican, going door-to-door to collect signatures so Sanders’ name will appear on the ballot in Indiana. Entire Reddit threads are dedicated to how veterans can best pitch Sanders to other veterans.

“He is revered,” said Paul Loebe, a 31-year-old who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan during eight years of active duty and spends three hours a day updating a Facebook page promoting Sanders to veterans. “He’s very consistent with where he stands. He’s the first politician that I’ve believed in my life.”

And anyone who says Bernie hasn't been an 'effective legislator' in the Senate, better not say it to any of these guys:

Veterans also credit Sanders for striking a deal with Republicans to pass a smaller — $16 billion — package aimed at erasing the lengthy wait times at veterans hospitals. Passing it earned Sanders top awards from the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Military Officers Association of America.

It's worth reading the whole article which points out that politicians court the veteran vote and how while Hillary did hold a roundtable event with veterans, she didn't take any questions. Bernie always takes questions. In fact he asks for them:

After speech at Drake University, the Vermont senator asked for questions. Tyson Manker was right there in the front row. He stood up, identified himself as a former Marine who drove six hours for the event, and said: “Mr. Sanders, I look forward to the day I can call you Mr. President.”

He has slammed the warmongers who sent them to war but then forgot them when they returned saying that IF we are going to send our troops to war, the least we can do is make sure we take care of them when they return.

A man of honor and integrity who is attracting even people who normally would disagree with him on almost everything, but one thing they all say is that he is a man of his word, honest and straighforward and a fighter for what the believes in.

that we should do everything in our power to take care of our veterans and because we shouldn't put soldiers in harms way without just cause.

Crazy ideas, I know.

And by implication, Bernie Sanders for supporting them?
If not, you should edit your post to identify which "fringey types" you refer to, or just delete your post completely because you are posting in a protected group.

I generally use ... rather than the tag. I have nothing but respect for our veterans, which is one of many reasons I support Senator Sanders.

I love the final paragraph.

I was amazed at the Bush administration's callous attitude toward the troops (no armor for their bodies and their vehicles, multiple deployments with little or no R&R in between, hiding their homecoming coffins, letting Walter Reed Hospital fall into disrepair, not giving them the support they needed after they got home). They'd been treated like shit and Bernie stepped in to help them.

Thanks for posting this, hard-working sabrina.

They USED the troops, any way they could. And it was Republicans who voted against every bill that would have given them some of that money that was supposed to be FOR the troops.

Eg early on in the Bush era Dems introduced legislation that would have increased the amount the troops would get in the event of their deaths. Republicans opposed it. I was shocked at the pittance they were entitled to should they die in Bush/Cheney's wars.

It was only after the people learned of this and the outrage that there was any question about this bill, that they were able to get it passed.

They care nothing for the troops. If they did they never would have sent them to war based on lies.

War criminals get millions, troops get very little.

And Veterans must have been very hurt about this, because many of them supported Bush/Cheney.

So it's understandable they would be very grateful to Bernie for the fight he has put up to get them as much as he could.

For all of us. This is where Bernie stands out from the other candidates. Even the nice ones like O'Malley and, if he runs, Biden, don't seem to feel a deep connection with the voters. Hillary allows for "women and children," but I don't know where they actually reside in her echelon. I'd guess not too high. Money and power seem to corrupt the soul. I suspect they're extremely addicting to certain types.

Okay, falling asleep....

And they are not showing up in polls yet. Maybe it's just as well, because as soon as it becomes obvious that the people are uniting behind a real Representative of the people, the smearmongers will spend a whole lot of those corporate dollars they have to try to stop him.

but I had to watch as my brother's legs were hacked off little by little, all the while the VA insisted it had nothing to do with his service in Nam.

A few months after he died they finally admitted responsibility. Nobody in the family was ever compensated.

They weren't even going to pay to bury him until my other brother who was a SGT in the USMC raised hell.

it again with the Gulf War Vets also. Could you file a lawsuit to get compensation as a family? I know nothing can bring him back, but the more money they have to part with the less profit they make.

What a waste of lives these for profit wars are. When will the people wake up and simply refuse to fall this every time they do it?

I am so, so sorry! That is unforgivable, and I wish there was a way to make THEM have to remember every life they are responsible for losing. Preferably behind bars.

Nothing will ever make the MIC and the US government take responsibility for the lives they destroy in their wars of aggression.

It is one of the main reasons why I will never vote for HRC.

When she or any of these warmongers put themselves in front of the troops in battle, I might look at them as presidential worthy.

In the mean time, Bernie would prefer to avoid war. That's good enough for me.

a disastrous invasion which most of US knew was based on lies. So either she has zero leadership qualities and could be led down a similar path unable to see the lies that teenagers at the time saw, or she is FOR the neocon forever wars using human beings to make them wealthy and powerful.

Either way, there is no way to forget that. And then there are so many other things she has been spectacularly wrong about.

Bernie voted against all these wars and the Patriot Act that was the REAL instrument that stole our freedoms, NOT any terrorists. Hillary voted for it.

Bernie will avoid war unless we are being seriously threatened which we never were wrt to all these wars we are now involved in for profit.
