Bernie Sanders Live-Tweeted The GOP Debate With Some Truth Bombs

There was just as much nonsense on display during the fifth GOP debate on Tuesday as there were in the last four debates, and since it was the last Republican debate of the year, we’ll have plenty of time to chew over what they all said. Not surprisingly, the Democratic candidates chimed in with their thoughts on the forum; not surprisingly, they weren’t fans. Bernie Sanders’ reaction to the GOP debate focused on foreign policy, as did the debate itself, and it was emblematic of the left’s general reaction to the Republicans' foreign policy: It won't work to defeat ISIS, and it'll trample on American values in the process.

Of course, Sanders will have plenty of time to deliver a full-throated response to the Republicans on Saturday, when the Democrats meet for their third debate of the cycle. Most of Sanders’ criticism of Republicans has focused on their economic policies, as that’s his raison d’etre, but he’s occasionally veered into other territory, most notably when he criticized Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. There, he focused on the dangers of demagoguery, and those who attempt to “divide us based on race, gender, sexual orientation and country of origin.”

We will not destroy ISIS by undermining our civil liberties and religious freedoms

A lot of talk about war. No talk about the 500,000 men and women who came home with PTSD, and traumatic brain injury.

Fifth #GOPDebate is over. Like the first, not one word about income inequality, climate change, or racial justice. The Rs are out of touch.

Not hearing anything from the supoosed 'leader of the polls' on that second point, for that matter.

for them. Even before the Republican "debate" started, I felt a discordant note or two with the ending words of the Star Spangled Banner -- with America being "the land of the free, and the home of the brave!"

Certainly none of the candidates was brave, and time and again they blamed Obama for the closing of the LA school district because of a vague threat.

Almost all of them said the closing of the LA schools was awful but the worst of the catastrophists was Christie who laboriously went through the fear brought brought about by the closing and experienced by a student, his/her mother, father. I guess we should be glad that extended family and pets weren't included in the ring of fear highlighted by Christie.

Of course if anyone is fanning the flames of fear, it is the unholy alliance of the hyper-fearful Republicans and the national media who apparently would love to have another war.

I would have loved to have had a split screen with these frightened bombastic candidates and CNN on one side and Senator Bernie Sanders on the other, bringing proportionality and common sense to the disgraceful demonstration of utter fear last night. And the idea that the San Bernardino shooting by two people is thought to be a logical reason for us to have boots on the ground in the Middle East is stupid beyond belief and certainly would be destructive for this country and harmful to the Middle East.

Last night's bathetic display also distracted many viewers, journalists, voters (as it was intended to do) from the real concerns facing this country including: climate change, the vanishing middle class, income inequality, Citizens United, loss of jobs because of our insane trade policies, lack of infrastructure spending, expensive education and student debt, the destruction of the social safety net, lack of affordable health care for so many Americans, etc., etc. Not one of these other subjects was discussed, although these are so much of the reason for ongoing dissatisfaction about our current conditions.

Go Bernie! Show these Yahoos that unreasonable fear is not a good governing policy!
