Why do the morbidly rich continue to obsess over their personal wealth to the detriment of their fellow citizens and society in general? Is it malice toward the poor? An addiction to money? Science may have some answers.

They will do anything to get it.
Destroy the planet and the people on it to become richer and richer.
More money than they can spend in a hundred lifetimes.
No amount of money will fill the holes in their soul.

(4,952 posts)They want to control the world. And they can. That's why such obscene wealth needs to be controlled. They can easily pay others to destroy the world to demonstrate their power.

But most of the really wealthy, and many of their minions want the power which comes with asymmetrical wealth. It is not enough that they are rich, we, the unworthy, must be poor.

(48,901 posts)A researcher interviewed wealthy people.
They were all quite wealthy.
Multiple homes, private planes, luxury lifestyle, etc.
And not one of them felt they had enough money, so they were not happy.
Every single one of those interviewed said if the only had more money,
they would finally be happy.
But then the researcher talked to people with more money and they said the same thing.
They needed more money to be finally happy.
So no amount of money will make these personalty types happy,
that is why they will do anything to get more wealth.

(5,053 posts)a diagnosable hoarding disorder is that society values it and money doesn't cause clutter
"Hoarding disorder is a DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th ed.) diagnosis assigned to individuals who excessively save items and the idea of discarding items causes extreme stress . Hoarders cannot bear to depart from any of their belongings, which results in excessive clutter to an extent that impairs functioning and may create health and safety risks. "
