Wyoming House Approves Unconstitutional Ban On Non-Existent Gun Laws
By Annie-Rose Strasser on Jan 31, 2013 at 11:15 am
On Thursday, members of the Wyoming state House gave initial approval to a bill that would nullify any gun laws passed by the U.S. Congress pertaining to extended magazine clips or semi-automatic weapons. The move is not only unconstitutional, but it is thus far unnecessary: Congress has yet to pass any new gun laws for Wyoming to attempt to nullify.
Under the Constitution, states are not permitted to pass laws meant to supersede federal legislation. But state Rep. Kendell Kroeker (R) argued that since Congress has not yet passed any gun laws, the nullification measure did not violate the Constitution. It is clearly a different case than trying to nullify something thats already in existence, Kroeker said.
But his colleagues apparently tried to keep the representative in check, with one pointing out, If we want to make a statement we can do it, but lets not lets not pretend that its consistent with the Constitution, because its not.
The bill was also amended to make it a misdemeanor charge for a federal employee to attempt to enforce federal gun laws in Wyoming. Thats actually an improvement from the original bill, which called for felony charges. It will now go to the Wyoming Senate where, with a 23-7 Republican majority, it will likely enjoy broad support.

America's roughly 80 million gun owners ALREADY have the feds & cops OUTGUNNED by 79 to 1.
Myth #1: They're coming for your guns
.
Fact-check: No one knows the exact number of guns in America, but it's clear there's no practical way to round them all up (never mind that no one in Washington is proposing this). Yet if you fantasize about rifle-toting citizens facing down the government, you'll rest easy knowing that America's roughly 80 million gun owners already have the feds and cops outgunned by a factor of around 79 to 1.

Gun Control? - 12/14 CHANGED EVERYTHING!
UConn/Courant Poll: Adults Favor Gun Control in Post-Newtown EraIn a new poll released by the Hartford Courant Thursday, there's more evidence that 12/14 has changed opinion:
The rest of Connecticut residents are more likely to call for gun restrictions than those polled nationwide among men and women, as well as all age groups, political affiliations, and education levels, the poll showed.
By wide margins, state residents favored banning military-style assault weapons and ammunition magazines with more than 10 bullets, preventing people with mental illness from buying guns, and creating a federal database to track gun sales, among other measures.
...............
57 percent said the shooting deaths of 20 children and six educators Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School made them more likely to support gun control, while 35 percent said it made no difference. Nationally, 44 percent said the shooting made them more likely to support gun control

Mark Kelly: 'NRA Leadership Out Of Touch - 74% of NRA members agree with Gabby & I'
Mark Kelly: NRA Leadership Out Of Touch On Universal Background Checks
TOM KLUDT 7:12 AM EST, THURSDAY JANUARY 31, 2013
Mark Kelly, the retired astronaut and husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), said Thursday that Wayne LaPierre and other members of the National Rifle Association leadership are out of step with the mainstream on universal background checks.
Citing a survey conducted last summer by Republican pollster Frank Luntz, Kelly asserted during an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that the overwhelming majority of the NRA's rank-and-file favor universal background checks for gun purchases.
"I mean, when you look at the NRA, the membership itself, 74 percent of the NRA members agree with Gabby and I that there should be a universal background check before buying a gun," Kelly said. "Those 74 percent of the members of the NRA do not agree with Wayne LaPierre and the leadership. So, I mean, we've got those folks on our side on this part of the issue."

We're sorry that your paranoia has made you afraid of the government & law enforcement, BUT...
YOU & YOUR STOOGES LOSE YOUR SEAT AT THE TABLE!The bottom line is a simple one. The adults want to have a conversation about guns in this country. People like Wayne LaPierre and Senator Cruz represent the immature and irrational arguments of criminals break laws so why try? And, dont punish law-abiding citizens by regulating semi-automatic firearms. These are arguments that dont hold water when you realize that in Senator Feinsteins bill theres no mention of taking any legally owned guns from anyone, and that laws are broken all the time but that doesnt mitigate the need for them. If they are going to insist on acting like this, they are abdicating their seat at the table, and the more sane gun owners, like Capt. Kelly and Rep. Giffords, can speak more loudly and clearly, without having to get over the noise and fear mongering of the NRA and their stooges in the Republican Party.

AL HS Teacher/Football Coach Caught On Tape Slurring ‘fat butt Michelle Obama’ and ‘queers’
ROGERSVILLE School district officials are investigating allegations that a Lauderdale County High School teacher made slurs in the presence of students regarding first lady Michelle Obama and gays. Superintendent Jennifer Gray confirmed the investigation concerns the schools head football coach, Bob Grisham, who also teaches drivers education and psychology.
The investigation includes a 1-minute, 24-second audiotape of Grisham asking who knows who is behind the 600-calorie school lunch.
Fat butt Michelle Obama, he said. Look at her. She looks like she weighs 185 or 190. Shes overweight.
...........................
Later in the tape, Grisham referred to the U.S. as going in the wrong direction and tells the students they can get pissed off at me or not. You can go tell the principal, call the superintendent and tell her. I dont believe in queers. I dont like queers, I dont hate them as a person, but what they do is wrong and an abomination against God. The tape was reportedly recorded by a student Monday and took place on school campus during the school day.

The NRA doesn’t speak for its members; it is basically a lobbying arm of the gun industry.
9 in 10 back universal gun background checks
Only seven percent of respondents in the poll, which was conducted before the president's press conference, said they oppose background checks for all potential gun buyers.
Support for universal background checks went across party lines: 89 percent of Republicans and 93 percent of Democrats and independents were in favor, as well as 93 percent of gun households and 85 percent of those living in a household with a member of the National Rifle Association.
Seventy-four percent of Americans, meanwhile, said that more armed security guards would help prevent mass shootings in public places. Thirty-five percent said armed guards would help a lot in places like schools, movie theatres and malls, and another 39 percent said they would help some. One in four said they would not help.

In new PPP Poll 49% of TEXANS favor an Assault Weapons Ban!
Texans support assault weapons ban
Overall on the issue of guns Texans say they trust the NRA over President Obama by a 47/43 margin.
And despite all of that 49% of Texas voters support an assault weapons ban to just 41% opposed to it. Texans support assault weapons ban, mixed on CornynMost Democrats support it, independents favor it by a 53/34 margin, and even among Republicans 23% support it. We've found support for the assault weapons ban everywhere we've polled it, but it's particularly striking to see that voters favor it in a pro-gun, anti-Obama state like Texas.

N.R.A. DEFENDS RIGHT TO OWN POLITICIANS
Posted by Andy Borowitz
In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee today, National Rifle Association C.E.O. Wayne LaPierre warned that the N.R.A. would vigorously oppose any legislation that limits the sale, purchase, or ownership of politicians.
Politicians pose no danger to the public if used correctly, said Mr. LaPierre, who claims to have over two hundred politicians in his personal collection. Everyone hears about the bad guys in Congress. Well, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a vote is a good guy with a vote. Im proud to be the owner of many of those guys.

E-mails link Bush foundation, corporations and education officials
Posted by Valerie Strauss on January 30, 2013 at 4:47 pm
A nonprofit group released thousands of e-mails today and said they show how a foundation begun by Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor and national education reform leader, is working with public officials in states to write education laws that could benefit some of its corporate funders.
A call to the foundation has not been returned.
The e-mails are between the Foundation for Excellence in Education (FEE) and a group Bush set up called Chiefs for Change, whose members are current and former state education commissioners who support Bushs agenda of school reform, which includes school choice, online education, retention of third-graders who cant read and school accountability systems based on standardized tests. That includes evaluating teachers based on student test scores and grading schools A-F based on test scores. John White of Louisiana is a current member, as is Tony Bennett, the new commissioner of Florida who got the job after Indiana voters rejected his Bush-style reforms last November and tossed him out of office.
Donald Cohen, chair of the nonprofit In the Public Interest, a resource center on privatization and responsible for contracting in the public sector, said the e-mails show how education companies that have been known to contribute to the foundation are using the organization to move an education agenda that may or not be in our interests but are in theirs.
..................
The e-mails were obtained by Cohens group through public record requests and are available here, complete with a search function. They reveal conclusively, he said that foundation staff members worked to promote the interests of some of their funders in Florida, New Mexico, Maine, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Louisiana.
