The Big Secret

James Fallows:

Israel doesn't have the military capacity to "stop" Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and neither does the United States, at least not in circumstances short of total war.

Why does this matter? As a question of negotiation, I think it's fine for U.S. officials from the president on down to act as if they might seriously be considering a military strike. George W. Bush and Barack Obama alike have consistently said that "all options are on the table" when it comes to Iran, and that's fine too. It can be shrewd to keep an opponent guessing about what you might do if provoked.

This negotiating stance could be useful, as long as it doesn't spill over from fooling the Iranians to fooling ourselves. (A la, "we'll be greeted as liberators!&quot Letting Iran's leaders think the U.S. is contemplating a strike might pay off. Actually contemplating it could be disastrous.

Romney Losing the Rupert Murdoch Primary

Romney Losing the Rupert Murdoch Primary

New York Times: “In the delicate and unseen campaign underway for Mr. Murdoch’s affections in the next presidential campaign, this much is clear: Mr. Romney is out of the running, a reality that has pained and angered his allies. Presidential politics is rife with grudges and grievances, but it is hard to recall a display of animus as unsubtle as that which Mr. Murdoch and corners of his media empire have unleashed on Mr. Romney in the past few weeks as he has tried to build support for a third presidential run.”

TEACHERS ROCK!!! - Moses Brown School Is Closed!!!

RI Teacher’s ‘School Is Closed Due To Snow’ Message Using ‘Frozen’ Parody Goes Viral (VIDEO)

Matt Glendinning, head teacher at Moses Brown School in Providence, Rhode Island, began planning for the first winter storm several weeks ago, not suspecting that #snowmaggeddon2015, aka the Juno snowstorm, was going to be the ‘Big One’ and was just a few weeks away.

His plan was to take the song, ‘Let it Go’ from “Frozen,” the movie, and sing along with his own words letting the school’s students know that the school would be closed for a snow day. Not only is ‘Frozen’ the highest grossing animated film of all time, but it was also the most downloaded movie from Apple last year. It seems every child knows the song and just about every adult has heard it, at least once, but probably multiple times. So, for Mr. Glendinning, it was a simple choice for a snow message.

The students wrapped up filming last Friday and over the weekend heard that a snowstorm might be moving in during the early part of this week. Timing is everything.

Mr. Glendinning had to admit that prior to filming the parody, he had not seen the movie and had not heard the song. (He must live in a cave when he isn’t at school).

Have no fear, wondering Bostonians: this Yeti is friendly – social, even – because it appears this is not the Abominable Snowman so much as some guy in a Yeti suit.

As the winter storm known as Juno pummeled the region, the “Boston Yeti roamed” freely along the deserted streets, documenting his adventures on Twitter using the handle @BostonYeti2015.

Krugzilla is a rabble rousing Dirty Hippie Economic Terrorist

Paul Krugman: Syriza should ignore calls to be responsible
The troika was peddling an economic fantasy: Greeks have paid the price

.....here’s the thing: if the troika had been truly realistic, it would have acknowledged it was demanding the impossible. Two years after the programme began, the IMF looked for historical examples where Greek-type programmes, attempts to pay down debt through austerity without major debt relief or inflation, had been successful. It didn’t find any.

Unable to lecture

So now that Tsipras has won, European officials would be well advised to skip the lectures calling on him to act responsibly and to go along with their programme. The fact is they have no credibility; the programme they imposed on Greece never made sense. It had no chance of working.

If anything, the problem with Syriza’s plans may be that they’re not radical enough. But it’s not clear what more any Greek government can do unless it’s prepared to abandon the euro, and the Greek public isn’t ready for that.

Still, in calling for a major change, Tsipras is being far more realistic than officials who want the beatings to continue until morale improves. The rest of Europe should give him a chance to end his country’s nightmare. – (New York Times)

Morning Joe Hosts Receive Special Invite To Closed Koch Event, Lavish Koch Brothers With Praise

Sunday night, a conservative political organization that has been called “the Koch Brothers’ secret bank,” hosted a forum for three potential Republican 2016 presidential hopefuls. The “American Recovery Policy Forum,” moderated by ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, was advertised as closed to the public and closed to the press — though networks did have some access to an Internet video stream.

But while other reporters were not invited, MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were in attendance at the Palm Springs event and fawned over their “awesome” weekend — and about the billionaire oil magnates.

Rashida Jones Corrects Reporter's Comment On Her 'Very Tan' Look: 'I'm Ethnic'

This year’s annual Screen Actors Guild Awards prompted many touching moments including two empowering acceptance speeches from “Orange Is The New Black” star Uzo Aduba, as she took home the award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy series and “How To Get Away With Murder” star Viola Davis, who won the award for Best Actress In A Drama Series.

However another highlight, aside from Aduba and Davis’ captivating speeches, took place earlier on Sunday evening during the event’s live red carpet coverage, where TNT correspondent, Danielle Demski questioned actress, Rashida Jones' “very tan” appearance.

"You look like you've just come off an island or something. You're very tan. Very tropical," Demski said to the biracial “Parks and Recreation” star whose father is music legend Quincy Jones.

It was an awkward comment to which Jones quickly responded, “I mean, you know, I'm ethnic."
