kpete's JournalMarco Rubio says Pope Francis isn’t for “freedom”
Rubio expressed his rather lengthy scolding of the Catholic pontiff today after President Obama revealed a Pope-brokered plan for the United States to resume diplomatic relations with Cuba.
I would also ask His Holiness to take up the cause of freedom and democracy, which is critical for a free people for a people to truly be free, Rubio told reporters, according to TPM.
I think the people of Cuba deserve the same chances to have democracy as the people of Argentina have had, where he comes from; as the people of Italy have, where he now lives. Obviously the Vaticans its own state, but very nearby. My point is I hope that people with that sort of prestige on the world stage will take up the cause of freedom and democracy.
(But this is my favorite part of the article):

December 18, 2014By Taegan Goddard4 Comments
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) got a surprise caller on his monthly WGBH radio show:
Jim Braude: Hello, sir. Yes, youre on with Gov. Deval Patrick.
Barack Obama: Uh, Governor, this is Barack Obama, formerly of Somerville. Ive got a few complaints about service in and around the neighborhood, but Ive moved down South since that time
Deval Patrick: Youre kidding, Mr. President. Who is this impersonator? Youre very good. Who is this really?
Barack Obama: I want to find out how it is that you got Massachusetts so strong and moving in the right direction.

& thanks for pointing out (once again) that BUSHCO did NOT keep us safe from 9/11

Bushco ignored several warnings about Osama bin Laden. On August 6, 2001, White House intelligence presented to him a brief titled, Bin Laden determined to strike in the US. Of course, Bush ignored his duties as chief executive and failed to heed the warnings, paving the way for Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda to attack us on 9/11.

Black pastor slams Hasselbeck’s willful race ignorance: ‘Someone white would make that argument’
On Thursday, Hasselbeck told Reverend Jacques Degraff, a Democratic strategist, that she couldnt understand why Michelle Obama had joked about the incident in an interview with late night television host David Letterman in 2012.
..........
I think the interview was in the context of racial experiences in America, and so African-Americans and others have learned how to deal with our pain and put a smile on irritating, annoying or downgrading situations, Degraff said. Her inner experience is what shes talking about this time. Every African-American is familiar with that.
So, youre saying that shes had some time to think about it and realize that its racist? Hasselbeck pressed.
Im saying African-Americans in general all have similar experiences of dealing with ignorance, Degraff replied.
.....................
Some would make the argument that it has become more difficult for black Americans under this president, the Fox News host declared.
Someone white would make that argument, Degraff shot back. The issue is being black in America under a Democratic president and a Republican president.
...............
Its difficult dealing with ignorance if youre black in America,
he added without acknowledging how his statement applied to the current interview.
it sure is...

CIA PROTECTED & PROMOTED Bin Laden Expert Accused of Shaping CIA Deception on 'Torture' Program
Bin Laden Expert Accused of Shaping CIA Deception on 'Torture' Program
BY MATTHEW COLE
...................
The report singles out the female expert as a key apologist for the program, stating that she repeatedly told her superiors and others including members of Congress that the "torture" was working and producing useful intelligence, when it was not. She wrote the "template on which future justifications for the CIA program and the CIA's enhanced interrogation techniques were based," it said.
The expert also participated in "enhanced interrogations" of self-professed 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, witnessed the waterboarding of terror suspect Abu Zubaydah and ordered the detention of a suspected terrorist who turned out to be unconnected to al Qaeda, according to the report.
But instead of being sanctioned, she was promoted.
The expert was not identified by name in the unclassified 528-page summary of the report, but U.S. officials who spoke with NBC News on condition of anonymity confirmed that her name was redacted at least three dozen times in an effort to avoid publicly identifying her. In fact, much of the four-month battle between Senate Democrats and the CIA about redactions centered on protecting the identity of the woman, an analyst and later "deputy chief" of the unit devoted to catching or killing Osama bin Laden, according to U.S. officials familiar with the negotiations.

“Which country do you think is the greatest threat to peace in the world today?”

Have you heard the screams of a prisoner who is being tortured in America’s war on terror?
Have you heard the screams of a prisoner who is being tortured in Americas war on terror? I cant forget them.
They pierced the walls of a detention center I visited in Samarra during an offensive by American and Iraqi forces in 2005. In a small room, I was interviewing a frightened detainee whose head was bandaged from an injury he unconvincingly attributed to a car accident during his capture. Bloodstains dripped down the side of a desk, and there was an American military adviser with us, as well as a portly officer of Iraqs special police commandos.
Suddenly there was a chilling scream.
Allah, someone wailed. Allah! Allah!
As I wrote at the time, this wasnt a cry of religious ecstasy. It was the sound of deep pain, coming from elsewhere in the town library, which had been turned into a detention center by Iraqi security forces who were advised by American soldiers and contractors. I was embedded with the Americans for a week, and I had already heard two of them, from the Wisconsin National Guard, talk about seeing their Iraqi partners trussing up prisoners like animals at a slaughter. During raids, I had seen these Iraqis beat their detainees muggings as a form of questioning while their American advisers watched.
...........
Repression is the gut instinct of institutions that have something to hide, and I came across that in Samarra, too. Shortly after I witnessed the threatened execution of a detainee (an Iraqi soldier pointed his AK-47 at a prisoner who was against a wall with his hands up), an order came down from the American command to get me out of Samarra. I was told to pack my backpack for the next convoy out of town. After I made a flurry of calls on my satellite phone, the order was rescinded. Someone wanted the truth to come out.
