"I'm not (black). So I'm not going to marry one"

I imagine 50 years ago

We could easily mildly edit conservative Georgian Saxby Chambliss' position opposing gay marriage as it would have appeared then.

"I'm not (black). So I'm not going to marry one"

Or the classics in a language he'd find comforting:

Ich bin kein Jude. Also werde ich nicht man eine heiraten

Yoko Ono's Plea For Gun Control Expressed In One Image: John Lennon's Blood-Splattered Glasses

On the 44th anniversary (March 20) of her marriage to John Lennon, Yoko Ono tweeted this powerful photo of her late husband’s blood-splattered glasses, the ones he wore the night he was murdered

31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into a war zone.

Together, let’s bring back America, the green land of peace.

The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him.” Yoko Ono Lennon

In my world, I’m still giving peace a chance and Yoko Ono will always be a hero to me. Love is all you need…and a fearless commitment to confront and defuse the powers that be.

Obama Caught on Open Mic Disparaging Congress

Obama Caught on Open Mic Disparaging Congress

When Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked if President Obama was counting on some rest and relaxation during his trip to Israel, the president quickly said, "It's good to get away from Congress."

David Hawkings: "The jape was caught on an open mic and appeared in no official transcripts, underscroring the perception that Obama is never more candid than when he's lamenting his troubles back home in conversations abroad -- and doing so with a foreign leader on the curious assumption that no one's listening in."

Wars Are Bad

Wars Are Bad.

And if for some reason the people who run the United States feel the need to start one, it means they've failed. It means they should all resign in shame and let someone else clean up their mess. This country has immense power - military, economic, political - and if you can't use the latter two, along with the implicit threat of the first one, to make war unnecessary then you've fucked up and it's time to go home.

10 Years Later: "It is not known what happened to the man or the boy."

Year: 2003
Photographer: Jean-Marc Bouju
Nationality: France
Organization / Publication: The Associated Press
Date: 31-03-2003
Country: Iraq

Caption: An Iraqi man comforts his four-year-old son at a holding center for prisoners of war, in the base camp of the US Army 101st Airborne Division near An Najaf. The boy had become terrified when, according to orders, his father was hooded and handcuffed. A soldier later severed the plastic handcuffs so that the man could comfort his child. Hoods were placed over detainees’ heads because they were quicker to apply than blindfolds. The military said the bags were used to disorient prisoners and protect their identities. It is not known what happened to the man or the boy.

Molly Ivins: "NEVER FORGET"

NEVER FORGET:

“Maybe the American people can be brainwashed into forgetting why we supposedly went to war. Near as I can tell, our national memory span is down to about two weeks, and the media have been spectacularly unskeptical on this issue. But the rest of the world is not going to forget that WMDs were our primary reason for an unprovoked, pre-emptive war.” — the late Molly Ivins’ from April 29, 2003, barely a month after Shock ‘n Awe
